Polka Theatre is one of the few venues in the UK which is dedicated to producing and presenting world-class theatre for children aged 0 - 13 years. Since the doors opened in 1979, this unique venue has been entertaining children with resonant, engaging and exciting theatre.Over 100,000 children a year come to Polka and are inspired, stimulated and engaged by theatre, often for the first time. Polka strives to stir the emotions, spark the imagination and, most of all, entertain. Its two theatre spaces, the Main Theatre and the Adventure Theatre are designed especially for children so that their first taste of theatre is welcoming and relevant. It’s also a free resource, where local families can ‘pop in to play’ - to explore our exhibition areas, dressing-up and reading corners, our playground, garden and cafe.

Went for Peter Pan with my nephew. He was dying for it for a while. We have waited a long queue before we went in. But the staff were so friendly, that we forgot about it.. They have been entertaining all kids around even tho the weather was bad as hell. The show was worth it.

I have been waiting for something to take my grandson to for ages! Well today we did it! I have been so looking forward to his first theatre experience and the reality didn't disappoint!! He is 18mths old and we went to see the Shining. It was perfect for the small people that it targeted! An excellent performance and I... More

I bought tickets for my daughter and two of her friends to see Grandad, me and teddy too! It was a fantastic experience and the children were entertained and full of wonder at the production. A well loved outing.

I went here with my Girlfriends family just after xmas for their show of Peter Pan. This is an awesome space for kids, the theatre is not that big i imagine it only seats 100 people or so, which means everyone is close to the action. Great stage and inventive set pieces with a clever prop department too. I imagine... More

Skitterbang Island was an amazing performance we went to see with our grand daughters. The twins are 6 years old and their elder sister is 12. All the 3 of them enjoyed the show a lot. 45 minutes is a very good length for young children, even though I'm not a big fan of puppetry, I loved this show too.... More

Have been many times , when my children were young , and with numerous school trips (children aged 6-11 years). A child-friendly and cosy introduction to theatre-going. The actors will engage in a question and answer session after the performance...and they deal very skillfully with the childrens' questions.

Just visited the Polka theatre today with my 8 year old. Fabulous performance for both plays. It was fun, interactive and a lovely introduction to Shakespeare. Jimmy Whiteaker is a unique performer. I would love to watch it all again. My daughter talked about it all the way home and couldn't wait to share her experience with her dad. Absolutely... More

We visited the Polka theatre in the half term to watch Charlie & Lola. We booked into the baby show as my youngest is 2 and a half and understand the other shows are for 4+. The show itself was great, good stage, puppeteers and nice effects like snow, bubbles and leaves. Unfortunately the baby show literally meant baby show... More

I have been often to Polka Theatre quite often with my kids - the most recent play we watched here was Red Riding Hood which was thoroughly enjoyed by my 3 yr old boys. The tickets are usually sold out and it is best to book well in advance. There is also lots to keep them entertained while waiting, like... More
