We came for a drive over from Sheffield and it was well worth the 2 hour travel. Being from NZ I instantly felt transported home as Formby beach on this grand day was in fine form. The sand, dunes and beautiful blue sky made for a fabulous afternoon strolling down the shore line. Nice to have some lagoon water to... More

went to formby pinewoods yesterday, its a national trust site and they really look after it, the new picnic area near squirrel wood is brilliant, and my 2 year old daughter loved it, i must say we dont own a dog, but all the dogs that we seen were well behaved, they only insist on dogs being on a lead... Went to Formby beach and sand dunes today. One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to fantastic powdery sand dunes, lovely pine forests and a very rugged coast line. Well worth the two hour ride from the Peak District !! Now back at home with a glass of wine and a very tired dog.

Best beach for miles. Plenty of space for everyone. Remember to visit the squirrels. National Trust working hard to clear the rubble that was dumped years ago, other than that, a perfect place.

Formby beach is a beautiful stretch of coastline. We went at the weekend with our dog and had a great time. I do agree with the other reviews when they say there was a lot of rubble on the beach but the further you walk on the beach clears up. Also check the national trust website before you go if... More

Owned by National Trust , free to visit if a member otherwise £5.50 for the car park. Money well spent. Upon entering, park in the short stay spaces and use the toilet facilities and then drive down to the beach car park. The walk back up to use the only toilet facilities on site is only ten minutes though and... More

Just returned from the beautiful sandy Formby Beach...not far from Southport which is very nice. You can actually paddle in the sea..the sand is soft and the dunes very inviting for a lazy day...the weather was hot and had a lovely cooling wind..it took me back to my childhood...the nearest beach is around 50 miles from Surrey so having this... I came here regular when I was younger as my best friends grandparents lived local. It is lovely! The beach is well kept and always busy. There is the squirrel nature reserve and woodlands which is well kept and great to see with children.

Being a local I have been visiting this beach for nearly 40 years. Can honestly say it is in the best condition I have known it at the moment. Litter is much reduced/ controlled and the efforts to preserve the dunes are paying off. The sand is perfect and golden unless in a recent tidal zone and is fantastic for... More
