Another correspondent notes that the University's art collection has now moved. I have reviewed the Victoria Gallery separately, so will not comment here, other than to say it's well worth a visit. I would, however, point out that the main picture at the top of this page is actually of the municipal Walker Art Gallery, which is about a mile... More

The VG and M has an intriguing mix of exhibitions in a wonderful building. From John Garstang and the Hittites on the top flor to local artist Paul Rooneys video installations and many other gems in between. Cafe is good too. Having just returned from a disappointing trip to the Turner in Margate this is somewhere visitors to Liverpool should... More

What a great mix of art tastefully laid out and clearly labelled. I saw a Matisse special a couple of weeks ago and it was free. Someone had left a comment in the visitors' book to say if this was in London there would be queuesaround the block and an entrance fee!!!

A good small gallery-including a number of Audubon animal paintings. Showcases the University art and ceramics collection. Top floor has small museum with interesting medical, veterinary and scientific collection. The building itself is the original redbrick university building (Victoria Building) with stunning late-victorian tiled interior. Some dressing up costumes for kids upstairs. Excellent cafe on ground floor. Free admission. Worth... More
