A beautiful example of a timber frame manor house, added to over the centuries but retaining many original feartures and managing to exude cosiness and charm. Set in lovely gardens and grounds.

Here is where history comes to life. If you like Philipa Gregory novels, you'll love exploring this amazing tudor house. Staff are knowledgable and welcoming and if you can, do one of the roof tours - they take small groups and you can go through the roof space, looking down into priest holes etc. A fab day out.

What a surprise! Lovely building with passionate staff. Very interesting place to go. Nice garden walks & a maze for the children (& adults) easy to find just head for John Lennon airport. Huge free car park & a nice cafe (N.T. prices) if visiting a number of national Trust places (many in the area) might be worth becoming members

This now owned by The National Trust and is very good example of a timber building. Impressive gardens but can be a little noisy as it is located near to the runway of John Lennon Airport

Always a good day out. The new play area and path ways are a great way to keep children active and have fun. The staff are all very child friendly and always go the extra mile to make them part of the National Trust. The Stables Tearoom is a great place for a rest and a large piece of excellent... More

Always a good local trip this. Did the new walk this time along the bottom path, following the red line across the old runway to the boat haven, with two grandchildren under three. If you want to see easyjet or ryan air take off and land immediately over your head this is the best place to stand! Gardens full off... More

This visit was let-down by the restaurant. Very busy and short of staff. The floor was dirty as were some of the staff uniforms. Long queue to pay while hot food got cold and some meals were left standing on the side waiting to be delivered to tables - needs some high level NT attention I think.
