I didn't realise that this place existed till I visited with a coach tour a few days ago. The building is stunning to look at as you approach and the grounds are beautifully maintained. The panelling, heavily moulded ceilings and dark, carved furniture make for some very dark rooms, and are not to my personal taste, but I could appreciate... More

I saw over twenty attractions in the UK and this was my second favourite (behind the Tower of London). It is a fabulous example of Tudor style architecture. The house is a hidden treasure, wonderfully restored and maintained by the National trust. Lots of really interesting historical points here such as the "eavesdrop" and the hiding places for the Catholic... More

An interesting visit, the history of the Tudor hall goes back some 500 years. Top marks to the voluntary staff who gave some fascinating detail about those who lived there and where some of our present day sayings and habits came from. Amazing Courtyard trapped in time, carved furnishings, the different rooms, fittings, portraits etc. all helped fuel the imagination.... More

Very interesting house with excellent guide but grounds rather limited. We travelled out by bus which involved a 20 minute walk at Speke

We visited on Bank Holiday Monday for the May Day Tudor Festival. They had lots of events on Archery (£2.00 for 5 arrows), quill writing, brass rubbing, hobby horse jousting and outdoor theatre and my 3 children aged 10, 8 and 4 all enjoyed it. There are loads of garden areas and lots of grassy areas where the kids coudl... More

We visited on a very hot May Day Bank Holiday . Wonderful atmosphere with morris dancers and tents with food and tudor style music. It was extremely busy and we had to queue to get into the building but once inside because of the size and amount to walk around the crowds were not too bad. Very interesting with information... A beautiful building seeping in history with links to William Morris, Rossetti and other artists. The gardens were disappointing although any Monkey puzzle enthusiasts would enjoy their collection. Unfortunately I thought the admission was over priced ( National Trust property) and the opening times were not acceptable. Although the gardens opened at 11am , access to the house was not... More

We visited recently for the Tudor May Day celebrations which was great and the good weather really brought out the crowds so we spent most of the day outside. There's a children's playground, a great maze, a footpath, some woods and the garden. Previously we have been inside the Hall which was very interesting and with the aid of a... More
