We happened upon the Collection accidentally while looking for a nice café (there is a lovely one at the entrance to the museum). Both the history museum and art gallery are free to enter which is a bonus, and surprising considering how much work has gone into designing the museum. There are plenty of things in glass cases to look... More

Really enjoyed the museum and the free 1hr guided tour is well worth the time. It goes through from the earliest prehistory to the medieval. Lots on Romans and Vikings which was enlightening. Afterwards we were exhausted and needed the savoury/ and sweet crepes in the café! Very delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. The gallery was also interesting... More

A lovely size of a museum and gallery. Very educational and very knowledgeable staff. I liked the constant reference to Lincoln and the surrounding area. It brought the exhibition to life.

Unfortunate that the Collection is paired with the Usher Gallery. Our family has regularly visited the Collection since it opened and the children loved it. Now they are older we decided more culture was required so we made the short trip across the road to the Usher. What a disappointment! Devoid of any real explanations/ guidance regarding the layout, even... More

Not as awe inspiring as we expected. Wouldn't go again. The building's exterior was more interesting than the contents.

We found the museum to be somewhat more extensive than we'd anticipated with a series of engaging and interesting displays in the main hall covering the whole history of Lincoln. The bronze age canoe particularly sticks in the memory. Just next door in the older building is the art gallery with a range of local paintings from different eras which... More

The collection is a well put together museum which manages to display different periods of history in a clear, simple and entertaining way. The main circular exhibition hall has great visual impact. A timeline runs around the room, making it easy to locate Roman, Viking, Neolithic or whatever your favourite time period is. There is enough hands on activities in... More

I recently revisited the Usher Art Gallery following the rehanging of its permanent collection. The Usher has decided to hang its collection thematically rather than chronologically. In my opinion it works with the limited collection on offer here. It is good to compare works from 300 years ago with works less than 10 years old. I particularly enjoyed the work... More

Lovely to be greeted by a helpful and informative lady offering tips on how best to enjoy the gallery and it's nearby counterpart. A weekday school term visit ensures the place isn't overrun with large numbers of visitors. The venues can be enjoyed as separate visits in their own right, or in conjunction with one another.

We have had visits to see a variety of lectures on Roman Emperors. The talks are delivered by a very knowlegable young man, he looks about 18 but I'm guessing he is older than that, he brings life to his subject with his enthusiasm. Cant wait for the next series.
