I visited the Usher Gallery because the literature I picked up at the Visitor Information Centre told me that the gallery has paintings by JMW Turner. Well, they aren't on display, any more than some Lowrys which the gallery apparently also owns. What a letdown. Fancy hiding your best works! I asked the reason for this and was given a... More

Took my young grandson recently - last visit was a number of years ago with my son - and the first room we visited gave him such an enjoyable time, with dressing up clothes, toys for hands on fun it seemed a pity to take him away. The experience has continually improved and a lot of hard work and thought... More

A beautiful 1920s classical building holds a wonderful gallery of painting, porcelain, sculpture, clocks, watches and silver. What is especially well thought out is the juxtaposition of the same genre from different periods, which gives on the chance to appreciate similarities and differences in art and design, and the importance of different aspects, over the periods. Adjacent to the Usher... More

This small gallery in beautiful grounds was worth the visit. The works of art including sculpture were neatly arranged with old and new with the undiscovered. The attention to detail with links to junior education were superb.

World class exhibitions for free at the Usher Gallery & don't forget to visit the side gallery in the (also free) Collection Museum next door. Great & very accessible art & interesting exhibitions, with children very much included. The cafe has further improved since Stokes have taken over with a fantastic selection of hot & cold food verging on restaurant... More

Small, free art gallery in a modern building. Different types and ages of art all mixed up. Helpful, friendly staff.

The Usher Gallery has got it right. Not too many items on display so you can concentrate on just a few. I loved the modern ceramics, especially the two Grayson Perry vases and the exquisite Edmund de Waal piece. Well done!

This is a relatively small collection, although very varied. The admission was free and there were some interesting exhibits

Went on a Sunday afternoon and surprised how quiet it was considering the crowds in the rest of Lincoln. Some wonderful pieces in the Usher gallery, liked the mixture of old and contempary. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Enjoyed the film on archaeology.
