The RAF Scampton Heritage Centre is housed inside the Annexe offices of the former 617 Sqn Hangar which is an English Heritage Grade II listed building. After a period of extensive renovation work carried out by volunteers, the Heritage Centre re-opened in June 2012. There is now the opportunity to see Wg Cdr Guy Gibsons office as it would have looked like in 1943.The Heritage Centre is open to the public by appointment only. Visits can be booked through the Head Curator Mr Roger Crisp. We can accommodate small and large groups, coach tours are very welcome as well as school trips.

We arranged to visit this museum on the same day as the Firefighting museum next door. Outside is Guy Gibson's dogs grave and 3 replica bombs. Inside you can see his office desk and fascinating information on the Dambusters crews and statistics. The bravery and loss of the crews is thought provoking. Uniforms parts of planes and memorabilia. Inside the... More

The museum is quite small, and you need to book ahead, but this is all to the good as what you experience is a small, very personal tour by a couple of RAF veteran volunteers. They tell of inspirational exploits of the 617 squadron (dam busters) and others based in the very hanger you visit. The tour is free, but... More

After enjoying the memorabilia and having lunch in ‘The Dambusters Inn’, in Scampton village (reviewed separately and highly recommended), my husband & I arrived at RAF Scampton at about 1.45pm, ready for our pre-booked tour. The tours have to be pre-arranged, as Scampton is a fully operational RAF base. We easily arranged ours via e-mail. The tour is free, but... More

The staff are what make this museum so interesting. If you just walked around on your own you would not appreciate the history that is enclosed in this area of RAF Scampton. We had a young man show us around (Ben I think his name was) and the knowledge he had of not only the items on show but the... More

Very interesting for ex service personnel. See and sit in the famous Guy Gibson's chair. We were able to see the red arrows taking off. There is a tea area and small shop selling souvenirs. A good morning out.

My wife and I had visitors from overseas connected to the their Air Force and we thought it was good to show them a bit of local history. On contacting the Museum we were informed that they would be required to fetch their passports and we had to provide id also ie driving license. There were no issues and we... More

I have lived near Scampton for years but had never been to the museum until a trip was organized by our WI. We had a fantastic time; very knowledgeable and witty guides, loads to see and learn. I'm not even that fussed about airplanes but I was fascinated during the tour. Not to be missed!

I was lucky and squeezed in with a couple of days notice but the recommended time to give is 14 days as there is a need to ensure you can access the base. There is a security check and you then can either walk (if allowed) to have a convoy of cars through the base to the museum. The museum... More

You do have to phone or mail in advance so check the web site. The wonderful staff managed to fit is in at a few day's notice so always worth enquiring. Terrific visit with knowledgable guides and so much to see in the time available. Very humbling to see Guy Gibson's office and the briefing room and of course the... More
