A church dedicated to St Martin has been on the current site since 1086.It was elevated to cathedral status in 1927. This was a very pleasant visit and the cathedral has a lovely tranquil atmosphere. There are many tourists visiting the tomb of King Richard. This is a very simple tomb made of swaledale fossil stone from North Yorkshire. You... More

Leicester St. Martin's Cathedral doesn't really compare with most of England's great and ancient cathedrals but it brings an element serenity to a busy city centre. The church was only designated as a cathedral a hundred or so years ago and is best compared with other large city centre parish churches. That was the case until this year when the... More

Small cathedral by comparison to others such as Lincoln and Durham etc, but is a beautiful place to visit and of course is now home to the remains of Richard III.

the cathedral was originally the parish church, and the setting is very relevant to the internment of king richard's body. volunteers knowledgeable and helpful. additional background and tapestry. watch out for weddings restricting opening times.

My visit was a short one but I was very impressed. This is truly a fitting resting place for a King. I visited many years ago but now the presence of King Richard III's tomb has brought this place to life (ironically!). The cathedral's interior is beautiful with bright colours and sparkling brass. Richard's tomb is every bit as majestic... More

You may be confused by the name of this cathedral as it`s better known throughout the world as Leicester cathedral. This is where the remains of Richard the 3rd are interred along with other artifacts which were used during his interrment,it`s also the home of the Leicestershire regiment rememberance book. The cathedral itself I don`t have much info on I`m... More

Like so many, we went to pay our respects to Richard III and came away understanding that there is so much more to this cathedral than his tomb. Having seen the television coverage, it was thrilling to view not only the tomb, which is simple but dignified, but also the pall with which the coffin was draped during the funeral... More

Although one of the smallest Cathedral's within the UK - this is worth a visit to see the tomb of Richard III.

The interior of the cathedral made even better with the recent addition of Richard III's tomb. The stained glass is beautiful with all the other supporting material. There is no ban on photography so long as you don't use flash. Well worth a visit and then continue on to the visitor centre as we did.

Went to see the tomb of Richard III and it really is worth a visit. The tomb itself is beautifully crafted in stone and the supporting material excellent. But it is not only inside that has been done so well; the courtyard is welcoming, spacious and just asks you to sit and stay awhile and muse on God. Make a... More
