This is a great walk and not too strenuous, and the views on a clear day are well worth the climb...

Climb but a little hill, said the poet Geoffrey Winthrop Young, who might well have been thinking of Orrest Head (which I think is the hill that first inspired A W Wainwright). The effort of a short and enjoyable climb from Windermere station (or thereabouts) brings the reward of beautiful views of Lake Windermere and beyond from the vantage point... More

Orrest head is small hill located very close to Windermere town. The route to the hill is easy, well marked and pleasant. The view from the hill is very beautiful especially the view of Lake Windermere. There are couple of benches to sit relax and enjoy the nice view.

Did this walk with a 3 year old and 7 week old in carrier. Fantastic views. Quite steep in places but easy walk overall. We parked near Windmere Hotel (2 hour free park)

We followed the path up the farm track and came back down the more well trodden path to the top of the town. The 360 degree views were beautiful and calming. Benches around to picnic or just to sit and drink in the views. Go on a clear day though to fully appreciate the views.

Easy walk in decent weather, mist over the lake, but still a special sight. We then walked on to Queen Adelaide's Head and on to the lake foreshore coming out onto Rayrigg Road, which we followed down to Mill Beck and picked up Sherriff's walk and headed for Lake Road and back to our guesthouse at the Woodlands, a nice... My husband and I really liked the warm welcome, the comfort and the food at Cedar Manor. Although it wasn't noisy with the window closed we could hear the sound of traffic when window was open.

this is a very easy short walk with the bonus of fabulous views for very little effort. It is uphill but very gradual, if us four with an assortment of creaking, aching joints can do it, anyone can.

A shortish walk from Windermere town leads you to one of the UK's most splendid views; an inspiration to visitors from Wordsworth to Wainwright. Not many views on the way up, but a panorama of the surrounding countryside greets you at the top. A plaque explains what you are looking at, from Morecambe Bay to the Pennines. Best on a... More
