It's a lovely house with beautiful views across the valley and they have made a real effort with the garden, but the "stuff" in the house didn't seem very genuine and my Mother thought that some glasses on display were free with petrol in the seventies. There was no feeling of it being a poet's house - just a victorian... more

Rydal Mount and Dove Cottage are two excellent places for tourists - both interesting, beautiful and - which is of great importance - full of life. Homes of dead great men and women can be stone dead like mausoleums - no voices in the parlour, no smell from terpentine in the studio or from steaks in the kitchen, no quarrels... more
