The formal gardens are beautiful. The larger gardens are most interesting. We always try to got to Shakespeare in the park. Ilyria are an excellent outdoor touring theatre company. Attend and you can look at the gardens as part of the deal. Potfest is also excellent

The house is very interesting and, from the entrance aspect you can clearly see its evolution from substantial fortified farmhouse (during the time of the reivers) through Georgian to Victorian Scottish Baronial. From other aspects the Scottish Baronial style dominates. The guided tour was perfect: our guide was informative and entertaining throughout the one hour tour (which we were all... More

This stately home is gorgeous inside and "a must" every time I visit Cumbria. The guided tour is excellent. Highly recommended.

When you first enter the car park you don't see the house, but when you walk up the drive the view is brilliant. The guided tour round the house is very interesting and formative and the views from the inside is very good. the gardens are interesting and well looked after. Very nice tea room with a nice choice of... More

We visited last Wednesday, taking advantage of the 2 for 1 offer on their website, resulting in the admission at £5pp represented good value. The house has an interesting history, having been built and extended at various times between c16th - 19th. Christine, the guide, was very welcoming, knowledgeable and informative on the guided tour which lasted about 1 hour,... More

Visited here yesterday, we had planned to visit for a while and were pleased to find a 2 for 1 offer from Trip Advisor while checking the website for opening times. I prefer free-flow when I visit places but found the guided tour, which lasted an hour, very interesting and informative. Each room is crammed with furniture, ornaments, tapestries and... More

We visited here. after being given a 2:1 voucher from protest. We arrived on a Tuesday and were the only ones there. We have a dog so had only planned on going around the gardens and were not disappointed. The walled garden was beautiful with an amazing array of fruit trees. The views and plants were glorious. We stayed for... More

Collectors of contemporary ceramics and day trippers have a perfect venue at Hutton in the Forest. The grounds are glorious and the stately trees provide shade for parking and for picnics. Potfest in the Park is a small but well attended art fair offering wares to suit every pocket in a relaxed and friendly setting. The restaurant at Hutton is... More

I visited during Potfest and then used a 2 for 1 voucher to revisit. This is a beautiful place. The house is very well kept, very clean with fresh flowers in the rooms. All the woodwork is gleaming and there is no sign of any dust unlike some other houses I have been to. The gardens range from spectacular flower... More

We visited the area and happened to see the Pot fest 2014. Some interesting pieces of ceramics with a number of international stalls. Good selection but pricey. It is artisan quality though! Well done. Stately home and gardens are average within this category. There is so much to see in the lakes, I will make time to visit some of... More
