Impressive house and gardens.

Arboretum is impressive and well labelled. Gardens wonderful in spring. Gardens, grounds and cafe are dog friendly. Ongoing restoration of extensive grounds promises great things.

The house looks interesting but we concentrated on the gardens, which were also interesting and open separately from the house if required. The tearoom is good for light lunches and excellent cakes, with friendly and welcoming staff.

We went here as there was a plant and food fair. We joined a walk and talk by the gardener which was very interesting. We did not have time to visit the house or walk the woods so need to go back. The salads we had in the tea room were excellent and look out for the amazing gates, we... More

We visited Hutton in the Forest thinking it would take us an hour or so, and we somehow ended up staying half a day! Hutton le Forest is an independent 'stately home' and felt very much like a family home still. The house is visited by tour only, going every half an hour and taking about an hour. Members of the... As members of the National Trust we love visiting old houses. This is a fine independent house. I could tell lots of love has been given to this property, it flows out of the very pores of the house. We would shown around by a very nice lady who gave us lots of history without being overbearing. It was just... More

We visited the house on a cold day in April. Upon arrival we were able to buy tickets for a tour that was about to leave. We were a group of six people, which made it more interactive. Our tour guide was very informative, which made the visit enjoyable. The house felt particularly cold and so warm clothing would be... More

Had a wonderful trip to Hutton in the Forest. Guided tour around the fascinating and evocative house of Lord and Lady Inglewood. The guide was excellent and a superb visit was rounded off with a trip around the beautiful gardens and a delicious scone in the tea room

This beautifull and fascinating house dates back to 11c with possible habitation on the site since 6c. Mentioned in the Arthurian tale of Gawain and the Green Knight. this has been in the same ownership for 400 years. It is weel preserved ,each period of build being quite distinct and although joined in build is quite separate in style. It... More

Great afternoon out. Originally wary that it was a guided tour but the guide (Judith, I think) was superb. She gave just the right amount of information on a variety of themes. The additions through the centuries make for an interesting history and architecture and you feel as if you're going back and forward through time. Gardens were interesting to... More

Usual stately home. The guide made all the difference. Some interesting things and the gardens are nice. Had lunch in the cafe which was nice. Had better and worse!
