Situated just off the A66 with plenty of parking, Silver Meadows is a well kept wildlife haven. It's maintained by volunteers and donations for upkeep and bird feed. There are raised boardwalks over marsh ground so easy access for push or wheelchairs. It's amazing how many different birds visit the area along with foxes, badgers etc. dotted around the site... Visited after seeing it mentioned in a guide book. As the book warned us, it isn't very well signposted, which is a shame as it is worth a visit. We (husband, 6 year old daughter & myself) all enjoyed wandering across the board walk path as it meandered through the site and it was a tranquil spot with the sun... More

It's only a small nature reserve but interesting as it is maintained as a wetland area. There are a couple of paths and raised board walks which go through the reserve, plus two interesting bird hides. It's free to visit and is managed by volunteers. Makes a nice place to visit for an hour or so on a sunny day.

A surprising find, excellent board walks pass through the meadows which one would never be able to do seeing it is a wetland. A short circle walk and suitable for all.

A little gem that makes a great addition to a visit to Cockermouth or after nipping up Sale Fell. And its FREE. Thank you to all the volunteers who give their time to maintain it.

April is the wrong time to visit, as not much to see. Later in year, really great, worth the time travelling from Keswick.

Stayed across the road from this interesting wee spot. Always a bonus to get unrestricted and free parking in the lakes and its close to the Pheasant Inn. Spent a lovely hour wandering around the boardwalks. Dogs must be on leads but great access for all.

Found a leaflet in a store otherwise wouldn't have known it existed. I was very impressed, the walkways are accessible for all and the shelters are brilliant. It is set in a lovely area near Bassenthwaite Lake so makes for great photographs. Will definitely return.

Picked up an excellent leaflet at Keswick Tourist Office. Place is difficult to find however. Go along A^^ (west bank of Bassentthwaite and just as you get to the far end of the Lake, before Dubwath village, take a minor road to the left signed "Pheasant Hotel". Park on side of road 200 metres along (before you get to The... More

Visited in both July and October. The walkways are well laid out and it's easy to follow. Unfortunately , not sure if it was because of the months we visited, there was a dearth of wildlife. On the hanging feeders we saw finches but no sign of any other life. A pity, because otherwise it's a pleasant 40/45 stroll.
