Took our two children, 9 and 6, and they thoroughly enjoyed the Kimberly Tour (the easiest!). I'm claustrophobic and I managed it (although I will admit I found it hard in the smaller tunnels). The tour guide was great and told me how long we'd be in each part and reassured me it opened out-which it did! I'm so glad... More

Even the easiest tour, suitable for all ages, requires sturdy shoes and warm clothing. We visited by the #77A bus, which dropped us off at the gate just in time for the first tour of the day.

Inside the shop it was freezing cold which made for a very quick look around which was a shame as some things looked interesting.

The story of re-opening the mine for commercial quarrying is fascinating and our tour took us deep underground. The visit is not claustrophobic as the caverns are huge. Our guide was excellent, humorous, & had us all whistling the Snow White theme as we went! The mine teams up with Help for heroes giving veterans an outdoor experience ziplining etc... More

Go into the slate mine and see the old workings. Try the Via Ferrata for some thrills but you have to be fit for this.

One of Wainwright's favourites, not very high but still makes you pant. Lovely views over Derwentwater

Not wanting to sound like a nerd but we really enjoyed this day out! After debating whether to go home a day early as the rain was so bad, we decided to stay and try a drive to honister pass from windemere and a trip to the slate mine. It was worth it for the drive alone as the view... More

This is a great location and worth a visit after the steep drive up Honister Pass. Excellent walks for those properly equipped as it's steep country.

Absolutely brilliant!!!!!!! I have been twice this year once with my family and then today by myself. Both times were well organised and the guys that take you round are absolute stars they make it really entertaining. The course is interesting and challenging with breathtaking views all the way along. I was a bit apprehensive about making the trip alone... More

After our boat, train and sight seeing I fancy something diff. After reading about the Honister Slate Mine on trip advisor we decided to pay the mine a visit. We took bus 77A from Keswick after speaking to the kind lady @ Keswick tourist information who assured us that we would have a great day there. We were being treated... More
