A real good local attraction - see the slate cutting and enjoy a warm brew in the cafe. Pivoted between the Honister Pass and the drop into the Buttermere area - it is a lovely place to visit.

Excellent mine trip. Pity the national park authority Luddites stopped the zip wire. Fossils in fluffy slippers won't get it you need a living national park with real attractions

Mine trips, café, shop, via ferrata and SLATE! A thriving concern mid way along the Honister Pass - worth the stop

We visited during some of the worst rainstorms ever and as a result the trip was twice as dramatic as otherwise. The hills shrouded in cloud as the road runs like a raging river into the gloom, the approach and outside was like Mordor in Lord of the Rings. The mythic theme continued down the mine shafts as our cheerful... More

Passionate about the mine, this family owned mine was a great day out. The tour was a very personal view into the mining life. We had two of our kids 16-11 and the tour was enjoyed by all. The drive to the mine was beautiful and made the tour all the better. They also offer great high adventure type activities,... More

Booked the Via Ferratta as a bit of a 'dare' for myself and a friend. It was scary, fun, and exhilarating all rolled into one 3hr package! NOT for the totally unfit or those of a nervous disposition! I did feel 'safe' - our guide, Alan, gave us total novices a good run down on how to use the climbing... More

Excellent xtreme climb - so much fun! Way better than GO APE! Only downside they take picks of you and charge you £15 for like 5 photos of you that are low quality!

If you're in the area, do pay a visit to the Honister Slate Mine. We enjoyed a really interesting mine tour and a drink in the cafe. For the adventurous there are climbs, a via ferrata and a scary rope bridge. Through the vision of Mark Weir (sadly deceased) a defunct slate mine was reopened and is now a thriving... More

My boyfriend and I booked to do the Via Ferrata Extreme course on a Saturday morning. We arrive for 8:30am to make sure we had enough time to get ready with our guides who showed us how to wear our harnesses and explained how to use the equipment so we were safe whilst doing the course. Once all ready and... More
