On a rather changeable afternoon in August we decided the safest bet would be to visit the Honister Slate Mine. Quite a few other people did as well though so the tour was quite busy. The tour was split into two groups - one for the Honister tour which was a bit more adventurous and the Kimberley tour which we... More

If you like driving mountain passes that offer great views & majestic scenery then Honister Pass is for you. One on the nicest & relatively easy drives (there are far worse passes in Cumbria), yes tight in places & narrow, but well worth the effort. The Honister Slate mine at the top has a nice cafe, shop (you can have... More

Amazing mine, shortish tour but the fella taking you around will show you a good time and is not politically correct, which makes it twice as fun. The new owner has a god like status since he died in a helicopter crash in recent memories and bought back a Cumbrian industrial icon which has its product across all the major... More

We did the mine tour and our guide was really helpful. It was really interesting and informative. Well worth a visit. My only tip is that it is really cold in the mine so take your jacket! Good car parking and there's a cafe too.

The kids 7 & 5 were both eager to visit the mine. So in a rainy day in August we took the trip up the mountain. Well what a nice drive in the middle of no where, the views were stunning. We arrived at the mine and booked the family Kimberley experience. As we entered the induction room the kids... More

We think Honister treats visitors very well. As a couple we had the via Ferrata extreme experience which is well worth the money. The cafe was a suprise , quality was good and prices not a rip off as in a lot of Lake District attractions. We know this from parking to coffees as we live in Cumbria.

Honister is a good place to visit just for the walking and the views. The cafe and shop are nice too. However, for a more thrilling and educational time, do the Via Ferrata. This is not a challenging climb, but you should be fit to attempt it, as there is quite a lot of climbing and walking involved. Also not... More
