We think Honister treats visitors very well. As a couple we had the via Ferrata extreme experience which is well worth the money. The cafe was a suprise , quality was good and prices not a rip off as in a lot of Lake District attractions. We know this from parking to coffees as we live in Cumbria.

Honister is a good place to visit just for the walking and the views. The cafe and shop are nice too. However, for a more thrilling and educational time, do the Via Ferrata. This is not a challenging climb, but you should be fit to attempt it, as there is quite a lot of climbing and walking involved. Also not... More

Just back from a week in the Lakes and we visited the Honister Slate Mines while we were there. I cannot say how good it really was, I was a little apprehensive but I loved every minute of it. My son also agreed that it was the best day out in the whole holiday! (that's coming from a young teenager!!).... More

We have been there already twice. Obviously the pass is normally very windy and it has rained a lot both times. So i don't think it' s such a good location for hiking or the adventure activities like the via ferrata. But the tours of the mine are both great. Be sure to wear waterproof schoes because

We visited in early July 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our guide, Bec, was terrific. Bec had a good knowledge of the mine, its history, its products and the stories of the miners past and present. As a guide she was engaging and told us enough to maintain interest without any boring minute details. If she had a 'script'... More

Visited on 8th august 2014 my hubby and his friend took 4 teenagers on the extreme ferrata. They had a really good time it looked truly awful from the ground!!! Meanwhile we took a mine tour with Roly who was well informed on "minecraft" which helped engage a 9 & 7 year old about slate!, The shirts were on the... More

The Climb the Mine experience is a great way to spend a few hours at Honister mine, climbing around a pre-determined course inside the caverns and tunnels created by slate miners. Steve, our guide, was friendly, relaxed and happy to spin a few yarns, give tips and provide encouragement to the whole group. The optional "Infinity" sky bridge at the... More

Great place to stop off at the top of the pass. Would have loved to go on the mine tour (pregnant misses stopped us) - one slight improvement could be a bigger cafe with more tables but that's only because we had to share. Will do the tour next time and climb up the pass track.
