This is an amazing place and the drive to get there is stunning if not a bit hairy with its steep climb, and narrow winding road.A great place to stop after visiting Buttermere Lake.

With a wet day in the Lake District in prospect, we were looking for something not quite so wet to do! We found a leaflet for the mine in our hotel so thought we'd go and have a look. The route there was a bit scary by car - the roads are narrow, twisty and steep, but we got there... More

Came through Honister Pass and stopped at the mine as we have before. Friendly service in the cafe, welcoming staff and even told us that we could bring our dog in if we wanted rather than sit outside. However we also visited the shop where the staff member appeared to have a completely different view of visitors to the Lakes!... More

We completed the via ferrata extreme here over the weeekend. If your an outdoors type person then this is a must. Its very tough and challenging, but well worth the effort. Great day out

Very chilly and not very inviting place to visit. The shop is very pricey and the cafe basic, sitting near the doorway so draughty too. High up on Honiston Pass so bleak & isolated

Visited on 22 June just to see what it was all about the trip down the mine was fantastic, a great insight as to how the slate is now mined against how it was mined in the early days of the mine. If you are in the Lake District it is a must visit.

Took the mine tour and it was brilliant, and the 90 minutes flew by. Our guide, Tori, was first class. Really recommend this place, and the views down on Honiston Pass are amazing. We ate in the cafe after the tour, which was OK but not quite so amazing - the paninis weren't bad but a bit pricey, and came... More
