If you want a lovely walk on a fine day in the Kendal area, head up to the Castle. The 360 degree view around our fine town is glorious. The site is well preserved and maintained. Proud to be Kendalian xx

We've lived in the area for over half a century and never even looked for the castle. My son had found it on the Internet and prompted us to drive to the east of Kendal and look for it. Parking was not easy to find on a wet day and the walk up was slippery but the castle was a... More

On a gorgeous summer morning over whit weekend, we walked up to Kendal castle and just marvelled at the scenery on the way up. The castle itself is well sign posted and there are drawings to help you visualise what purpose each part of the castle had. My kids loved it up there. We headed down to the play park... More

This is another castle ruin. It's in the heart of Kendal, is free, the walk up to it is pleasant, it's peaceful. There is limited information at the site, but what is there is interesting. Dog friendly. We enjoyed the walk along the river and up the hill to the castle. This is not a major site, but if you... More

I went to the castle in the evening and it was worth the climb up. The information is good and it was free to look around, abit windy up there but you get a good view too. You need to use your imagination as to how the castle once was as alot of it has now gone.

Short but steep walk up the hill from Parr Street to the ruins. Complete walls all around so we could play Hide'n'seek with the children within the castle. Lots of nooks'n'crannies to hide in. We then walked a more leisurely path down the hill to Castle Road and had a walk around Kendal.

A lovely climb to the top of the hill and you can freely wander around the castle ruin. Great opportunity for photos.
