We visited on a sunny Saturday, having got the boat over from Coniston. The ladies in the reception / shop were very friendly and helpful, giving us trails for the children to follow. The children's trails were good, involving answering questions rather than just looking for pictures or hidden bits of Lego. This meant we could have a good look... More

Wonderful 'extended farmhouse' type of place, with views over Coniston Water, a large restored garden, and 19th century curios aplenty. Musicians can even play his piano, if you ask the staff. YHA members can get in at a discount, if you show them your card at the ticket office. Good cafe on-site and frequent exhibitions etc. mean you can spend... More

Whilst in The Lakes, we took a morning trip on a launch, on Lake Coniston. Our Skipper stopped off 3/4 of the way around the lake at Brantwood, to pick up passengers, that is where we first discovered all about the location. On our last day, we decided to venture over to Brantwood, neither my Wife or me being that... More

Good House and the restaurant offer very good food. This makes an excellent stop on the lake boat trips. Well worth a visit.

Great views of Coniston from the well laid out network of paths. Something there for all gardeners - shrubs, foliage, raised beds, trees - you name it.

Brantwood was the home of John Ruskin, who we had heard of but known very little about. We spent a couple of hours looking around his home and learning about this man who had so many ideas well before his time. Friendly staff and a very informative film prior to looking around the house made our visit very pleasurable. Unfortunately... More

This property is so well run and managed. I spent ages inside, really informative guides. The gardens both wild and formal are beautiful. The little lake at the top is worth the short uphill walk. I spent a couple of hours admiring the splendid views, and just discovering all the gardens had to offer. The tearoom was very good, a... More

our first visit to Brantwood. The house was really interesting and we enjoyed the exhibiton of Ruskins early photography. The public toilet should be mentioned as not only were they immaculately clean but boasted a wonderful design by a disabled group of desginers. The musical rocks room was very intersting and enjoyable. The Jumping Jenny cafe was a little bit... More
