Even if the village is actually lovely and the place where the paintings are preserved is lovely too, there are just a few pictures. And, again, like in Hill Top(where there is the Beatrix Potter house) if you got a dog, you simply don't know where leave him (her, in my case). It just a matter of organization: it would... More

I was fascinated at the gallery by all the original art work. Although the gallery is small it includes art work of your favourite Beatrix Potter characters and it was a delight to see them.

The gallery in Hawkeshead were once the solicitors offices of Beatrix's husband, who also left his estate to National Trust. This too is well worth a visit, when upstairs you can listen to what Beatrix wrote in letters to friends about the train journey's to various holiday spots & what occurred, really quite amusing! Here too are drawings which she... More

Although small, the Beatrix Potter gallery is a great place to start your Beatrix Potter journey in the Lake District. Housed in the original Heelis' solicitors offices, it provides the perfect back drop to many of Beatrix's original paintings and personal possessions. This years exhibition theme is Beatrix on holiday and shoes how her early visits to the Scottish Highlands... More

Having been to Hill Top initially, then visited here, my wife's expectations were not met, nor was I impressed with the Gallery. Nothing wrong with the staff and volunteers, just the content on the gallery based on "holiday" theme. Suggest that NT have a combined price for both attractions to keep cost down. Fortunately we are National Trust members. On... More

A fascinating building in its own right so that it well-worth the visit. It contains many interesting items from Beatrix Potters' past and by visiting the gallery it extends the experience of visiting 'Potter Land'. The welcome we received was lovely and we were given much time and explanation.

Not too expensive, for a NT property, but then there is not too much to see. It is an old house with some lovely paintings and history to tell. The saving grace for our visit was that there was a quiz which my 9 year old son found quite fun and completed with a bit of help and got a... More

With nice pubs in the area it made the gallery a very nice place to visit and at only £6 each it is not too expensive

Based in a her husband's legal office in the small village of Hawkshead, this building and its contents really demonstrate Beatrix Potter's talents and her inspirational sources. Original sketches and source material set in a building which stands alone without its contents. Watch out for the graffito on the cupboard doors...history come to life.
