Lovely friendly staff and not too expensive - plenty to occupy my ten year old granddaughter and lots of handy seats for me

The Beatrix Potter Gallery, which is run by the National Trust, is well worth a visit. The gallery is located in the former solicitors’ offices, where Potter’s husband William Heelis worked. The 17th-century stone-built building is in the centre of the delightful Hawkshead village. It’s just a short walk from the main park-and-pay-later car cark. The gallery displays original sketches... The building itself was most interesting & the guides were very knowlegdegable.. The paintings and drawings displayed vary each season so it is worth revisiting.

It is a good place for younger families with children. It is quite expensive and we didn't spend any longer than an hour there. If you join in everything I would still only have been there for two hours. It has a lovely gift shop, which is good to stock up on. Cute Christmas presents.

Do not be dismissive of Beatrix Potter as some kiddie book writer. She was a first rate, self-taught nature watercolorist which is what gives her book illustrations such detail and depth. You know the stories, you know the pictures, now see the originals in all their brilliant detail. Not to mention that it is in the oldest, tiniest, coolest gallery... More

I'm not sure of the fee for this attraction as we are NT members, but this is well worth a visit whatever the cost. It was lovely to see this artwork at such close quarters, but perhaps we were lucky that the weather was not particularly good, as I think it could become very busy in the Summer. Hawkshead is... This was a beautiful exhibition and well worth visiting. There was nothing cheap and tacky and all the figures well displayed and taken straight from the pages of her books
