Well worth a visit, at £2.50 entrance fee it was probably the best spent £2.50 of the holiday. The school holds a lot of history including all the desk carvings. The guide was happy to answer any questions.

Loved the building and the history within - worth a visit as it has original school desks and other literature such as Elizabeth I signature. Plus of course the Wordsworth graffiti on the desk. Very atmospheric, and the guide knew lots of information. Easy to get to, parking close by, pubs close too!

We stumbled on this place while visiting Hawkshead and what a find! The old school dates back to the time of Wordsworth in fact his desk with his name carved on it is still there. The exhibits are very interesting and there is an excellent guide who is a mine of fascinating information and is very happy to answer your... More

It's like walking back in time when you visit this school. The guide who was there when we visited shared very interesting stories with us about what it was like to attend school there. The exhibits are 'old school', but fun to peruse.

They were closing for a big tour to come in but the fellow working there let us come in and see Wordsworth desk. Very sweet.

This historic old school house with original desks is well worth seeing. The guided tour is packed with information and gives a real insight into the education system of years past. Recommended -- you will find that you still have things to learn

We loved the pretty setting at the foot of the village church, showing the old classrooms.... William Wordsworth & his brother attended here. Didnt like that you had to pay to go in.

The old school was very interesting and we were shown round and told about the history by a gentleman who knew its history inside out.It was interesting to see that scratching names into desks etc is not just a modern thing.

Annie the personal tour guide made the place. Small school room where 70 boys were taught; Headmaster's room and one other above. Not big, but Annie brought it to life and patiently answered my children's incessant questions. We really enjoyed the space, atmosphere and welcome. Kids free, £2.50 adults. Bargain. Definitely pop in, if only to see the Wordsworth penknife... More
