A 16th Century grammar school doesn't sound like much fun but the history is timeless! Wordsworth's school, where he found his love for poetry, Fletcher Christian's brother was here, and the original desks with over 400 years of carvings on! It is so amazing! Just one of those little gems you don't know about unless you really look. So go... More

Before walking up Latterbarrow we visited the Old Grammar School and found it a most interesting place. To see the carved names of the students including Wordsworth's was a pleasure and to hear how things were for them made me grateful for going to a present day grammar school. At least they had to use their minds for maths and... More

The old building has a grand history dating back to the 1500's. It's most famous scholar being William Wordsworth.

Beautiful little museum dedicated to William Wordsworth who went to school here. Lots of relics and even a carving by the man himself. Very helpful curator.

I was captivated by this beautiful and historical little school. The gentleman who is the guide had so many interesting anecdotes and lovely stories of its days as a school. It still retains all the atmosphere .Highly interesting and very informative. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It really made our stay in Hawkshead more special.

I have to admit I have been to Hawkshead many times and have always walked past this gem. I mean who wants to go in and see and old school, I had enough of that 40 years ago and quite frankly as a resident of the Lake District there are only so much Wordsworth connections a man can take. I... More

Well worth a visit, at £2.50 entrance fee it was probably the best spent £2.50 of the holiday. The school holds a lot of history including all the desk carvings. The guide was happy to answer any questions.
