We visited the museum mainly to see the Bluebird and read about Campbell. There was plenty packed into a small museum. History of Coniston, Ruskin and the Bluebird along with an art gallery. My children aged 5 and 7 years soon tired of the museum though as there was nothing interactive for them. They found the Bluebird information interesting and... More

It is a steep walk from the ferry to Ruskin's house but, as I knew nothing about Ruskin I was determined to get up to the house. I found later that one can get there easily by car down the side of Lake Coniston!. From the house the view is truly beautiful over the lake. One can see a short... More

Went here with the family specifically to see the Donald Campbell Story. The museum itself is a bit dreary and there is nothing here to interest children - no interactive activity or anything to engage them. I thought it was a bit boring to be honest, the only part I found interesting was the Donald Campbell section. It wasn't worth... More

Knowing little about John Ruskin I was not looking forward to visiting the museum. To my surprise it was very interesting and informative about Ruskin along with Donald Campbell and the local area and was well worth the visit.

Central location that manages to tastefully mix displays of Donald Campbell, John Ruskin, lake land geology as well as Swallows and Amazons without each spoiling the other. Free to artpass users. You can buy a £1 license at reception to take photographs

It was great to visit a local museum which does what it does really well. Its main features are local celebrities John Ruskin and Donald Campbell (how they'd have hated each other!), Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons, and local WW1 hero James Hewitson. But all the things which make Coniston - geology, archaeology, mining and mountain rescue (Britain's first ever... More

I loved the layout of this museum, I learnt absolutely loads about John Ruskin, the art gallery was brilliant and I also learnt loads about the blue birds.

A wealth of resources in a clean and neatly laid out venue. There is plenty here to occupy an hour or so on a wet day. Not sure how busy the museum gets as when we visited we had the entire place to ourselves.

Our family paid a visit to this little museum. We really wanted to see the exhibits on Donald Campbell, we were not disappointed. I have sons aged 24, 21and 17 and thought this would interest them. Even my 14 year old daughter thought it was great. The museum is very small but there is so much local history packed into... More

I didn't expect much being so small but it was very interesting and the staff were very helpful. A bit of a hidden gem.
