Great Pub

Have been going here for years. Always a warm welcome, friendly staff and good beer. Always fairly busy with locals. Dart board to use.

This place held great memories for me in the past so decided to pop in for a drink after a walk around Ambleside. What a shock I had .still the same quaint, cosy pub...BUT £4.20 for a pint of Becks...ridiculous. ..but it seems that the Lake District is in Open Season for overcharging for drinks...so I suppose I shouldn't have... After visiting this pub for many years, I took my wife in for a well earned pint after walking on a wet Thursday afternoon. The pub did not disappoint - fairly quiet, but trimmed up for Xmas, a roaring log fire and a more than decent - albeit expensive- pint. All good so far. Sitting near the fire my wife... More

Thank you for taking the time after many visits to review us. I am pleased to hear that you liked the Christmas decorations, the landlady spends a lot of time making them and putting them up, and that you enjoyed your drinks. The drinks may be more expensive than you are used to paying, but I believe that our prices... More

Lovely pub. If you've had a long walk and feel like you deserve a pint and a pork pie then look no further. Decent games room and good range of beers. Good mix of folk in there, which speaks volumes. Thoroughly recommend.

We've been coming here for over twenty years and we don't know why we haven't written a review before now. The service is always warm and welcoming. Staff are always friendly. The landlord and landlady, John and Margaret, run a tight ship ensuring high standards are always maintained. The cleanliness throughout is to be commended- these guys don't rest on... More

This is quite simply and honest to goodness pub. There is no food apart from snacks - try one of the pork pies they really are delicious. There is a really warm welcome and the beer, I'm convinced, flows straight in from heaven. It's also impossible to go in there without having a conversation with somebody. The locals are really... Pop into the Golden Rule every time we go to Ambleside. Nice friendly welcome, few locals in there. Great range of cask ales, knowledgeable owner, chatty. Wifi and a few sockets around to plug your charger into! Definitely, recommend.

Lovely traditional friendly pub set in the steep backstreets of Ambleside on the way to the Kirkstone Pass. Very dog friendly and nice to see the dogs enjoying the pub as much as their owners. Wide selection of beers on hand pump and scrumptious scotch eggs and pork pies. No other food though, but this place really doesn't need it.... More
