Tradition local pub off the beaten track. You need to get off the main streets in the town. Up North Street and you will see it tucked away on the left. Great little pub. No gimmicks, no loud music, no telly. Warm welcome. Good choice of beers, ales and drinks. Lovely log fire.

So nice to come across this both hole. This is a real pub, sort of thing that we all used to go to in the late 70's. Bar man was welcoming without being sycophantic . Quirky rooms, no food unless you count cockles, winkles and crisps !. No music or tellies ...loved it!.

This is how pubs used to be, great staff always friendly, lots of real ale, cider and larger and now a nice selection of wine. Pork Pies and Scotch eggs are a must if they are not sold out. Real Fires and dog friendly my perfect pub.

Great pub slightly out the way but the first one we saw coming back into Ambleside, off the mountains. Good selection of beers and a lovely little beer garden of sorts out the back. Don't know if it's quite all the time but it was very quite when we were there.

What a great pub this is, with a real homely feel and a warm welcome. Nice little beer alley out back. Beautiful draught Guinness. Summer or winter you must give it a try.

Great little pub serving nice real ales. Welcoming and comfortable hidden away from the main centre where everyone else seem to go. Quiet enough for a good chat about how great your days walking has been!

Whislt staying in Ambleside we visited the Golden Rule a few times and found all the staff to be friendly. They have a great selection on Real Ales (Citra Pale Ale being my favourite) and the staff were knowledgeable about them. Locals and visitors were welcome when we visited. I will definately be back!!

Always a warm friendly welcome whether visiting soaked from a walk on fells or drinks in the evening. Great scotch eggs and pork pies. Fab well kept beers and good selection of pub wines. Even biscuits for the dog. Hardly ever go anywhere else.
