Great little pub serving nice real ales. Welcoming and comfortable hidden away from the main centre where everyone else seem to go. Quiet enough for a good chat about how great your days walking has been!

Whislt staying in Ambleside we visited the Golden Rule a few times and found all the staff to be friendly. They have a great selection on Real Ales (Citra Pale Ale being my favourite) and the staff were knowledgeable about them. Locals and visitors were welcome when we visited. I will definately be back!!

Always a warm friendly welcome whether visiting soaked from a walk on fells or drinks in the evening. Great scotch eggs and pork pies. Fab well kept beers and good selection of pub wines. Even biscuits for the dog. Hardly ever go anywhere else.

A very nice pub, old fashioned, friendly and very comrtable. It has 3 or 4 small rooms off the main bar area all with their own charactor. The beer was in excellent condition and the pork pie tasty!

Found this by accident and it was lovely out of the hustle and bustle of tourist full pubs in town. Only stopped for an afternoon beer in the sun, which was just perfect. Sat in the sun outside on some benches. Only a few other people there and a few more turned up later but it was just what we... More

Liked it partly because they did a 3 x one third pint bat to try a few ales. No music, no singer, just a quiet traditional lakes bar. The odd smell of the loos drifting through was a bit off putting. Very much a place where people pop in from their walks (perhaps with dogs). Free wifi.

Came here for a couple of drinks on the first night of our stay in Ambleside. Nice cosy pub with lots of different rooms. We sat in the room with a tv which had loads of board games and books, so we sat and played snakes and ladders! Nice staff and a good vibe.

A great place to call in for a pint (no food), chill out and nurse your sore muscles after long walks in the Lake district. Friendly landlord, landlady, locals and great beer....what more could you ask for? One of the nicer pubs in Ambleside.

Good beer, fantastic scotch eggs and pork pies, no jukebox...what more do you want? Eat somewhere else in Ambleside, then pop here for an evening of beery contentment

I generally visit the Golden Rule on each trip to Ambleside. It is totally hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Ambleside and you may not know it was even there if you didn't hear about it first. Worth checking out though if you like your ale. There were around 6 wickets on when I was there earlier this... More
