The Jenkin Crag + Troutbeck loop is a classical walk from Ambleside, for you gain access to the Lake Windermere views, as well as nice walking through the hills. Do not hesitate, take the road !

Well worth looking this up on the map and taking a walk, there are several ways of reaching it some easier than others!

Take a short, fairly steep walk from Ambleside and you will find yourself at Jenkins Crag. A superb view over Windermere, the Langdale Pikes & Coniston Old Man beyond (on a clear day!). The climb will soon be forgotten! Be aware that the edge is not fenced off, and it's a steep drop...keep kids & dogs under close control!!

Good view down the the lake, excellent for photographs and picnics. Careful of the edge if you have dogs off the lead.

There a a few different routes to this viewing point which overlooks Windermere. From the National Trust car park at Stagshaw Garden it is about a 20 minute uphill walk. Whilst walking there you can admire some specialty trees including the tallest one in Cumbria. If you walk on beyond the Crag you can go up Wansfell which is an... More

a great short sharp walk just at the back of the town. in about 2 mins you leave the madding crowds as you climb up through the woods to be rewarded with a great view. I was there alone too.

Just a great place to sit, have a coffee and take in the views. Certainly a highlight of the walk we took on the day.

Great walk direct from Ambleside to a lovely viewpoint. Take the track past High Skelgyhll Farm and down to Low Wood to return to Ambleside in half a day, or go to Town End down the track and over Wansfell Pike for a full day walk.

A lovely walk up to Jenkin Crag and stunning views from the peak. It is peaceful but there is only so long you can spend up there. The walk up to the Crag can take about an hour depending on your pace (and if you don't get lost like we did!).
