One of the best place to chill in the uk! On a sunny day, you'll just spent a whole afternoon on the bench looking at the lake and chit chat! Just order a beer from the nearby restaurant and enjoy the scenery. It's not windy the day we're here. I just sat from 12 till 5pm. This is just like... More

A great way to while away an afternoon - icecreams, café, boats, walks and scenery. We visited a couple of years when it was snowing, so no icecream, but the scenery and boat trip was absolutely stunning.

A charming part of Ambleside, centred around the jetty, with lovely views down Lake Windermere and up into the heart of the Lake District. Plenty of good accommodation from the youth hostel to 4 star hotels.

Lovely views, steamers coming and going and good tea/coffee/baking to help you take it all in. Perfect on a nice day

I have travelled to the Waterhead for many years now and I have always been impressed with the hotel. It describes itself as a boutique hotel and perhaps when it first opened it was different and so could justify this description however following my last visit I'm not so sure anymore. The welcome at the front desk was efficient ,... More

We were lucky with the weather and spent the day travelling around the Lake District, taking the car ferry from the Hawkshead side across Windermere to Bowness. The views were stunning on a cold but sunny February day. Visited Waterhead where there appears to be plenty of accommodation and small cafes. Sufficient parking in Waterhead at a cost (as in... You can pick up a boat trip on Windermere lake here and there are choices of more than one company. You can also go across the lake and than walk around the other side down towards Bowness. There is lots of hotels, guest houses, pubs, and tea rooms and a very youth hostel. Also not very far to Hayes nursey which is always worth a visit.
