Thought the cottage was too dark, you could not see much. I know it was supposed to be in keeping with Beatrix's time, but hey.....no wonder she was practically blind in the latter years of her life. The exhibits from what I could see were photocopied bits of illustrations, the same in each room!

If you are a fan of the books, this won't disappoint! It is a small house, so entrance is timed, and it's quite dark inside, but you can recognise the points she used for illustrations (esp. in Samuel Whiskers) and the garden is very charming. Worth turning up quite early, as the carpark isn't big either. The hotel next door... More

Charming little cottage bought by Beatrix Potter and the inspiration for those books. It is small but it is clever how her books have been left out showing the parts of the house used in the illustrations. Gives a bit of an insight into the woman who bought thousands of acres of land and helped to preserve the unique Lakeland... More

There is no doubt that the fans of Beatrix Potter will enjoy visiting this attraction, but £9 per person is excessive for what there is to see there (National Trust members have “free” access or, rather, access paid for by their membership fee). The farm is well preserved, with many interesting exhibits, helpful staff and wonderful views, but you would... More

Having the opportunity to visit Beatrix Potter's Hill Top farm was amazing. To see how this talented lady worked and lived was fantastic. Every thing has been left untouched just as Beatrix expressed in her will giving the property to the National Trust. Thank you Beatrix and the National Trust for allowing us to visit Hill Top. It was fantastic.... More

£9 I think if you are not a member, we are, pleased we visited while we were members as learnt something about Beatrix Potter but there are only 6 rooms to look in and not a lot of information, room guides good though. I think we were only in there 15 minutes. I think you need to be a fanatic... More

When we arrived here in the afternoon, the tours had been sold out, which was disappointing. No worry, though! The friendly parking staff said the best way to get in was to come first thing in the morning, so we did. It's such a pretty place - the wait was very short, and all of the people working here were... More

Unfortunately the house wasn't open due to the time of year but it was lovely to walk around the garden and remember the stories - our 21 year old thought it was great as she was a real fan of Beatrix Potter. The little shop there was well priced with some interesting gifts. The house is on the drive around... More

For all fans of the inventor of Mrs Tiggywinkle etc, this is a must place to visit. Her beloved cottage in Near Sawrey is almost as if she had just popped out for a while. In fact this was how she wanted the National Trust to keep it when she left it to them. It is dark and full of... More
