A small railway well worth visiting but I doubt I will be going back when there are better railways in the South East. To be honest there isn't much to see but that didn't matter to my grandson who loves steam engines. That said he was a bit disappointed that steam trains only ran one way and the return journey... We enjoyed a tasty fish and chip lunch, followed by an ice cream, whilst on a train ride from Tunbridge Wells to Groombridge. Sadly the train was diesel as the steam engine had mechanical problems that day but we still enjoyed our trip. The staff were all polite and very friendly. This was a credit to them as the day... Spa Valley Railway is filled with enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers. I found that the old steam railway had been maintained spectacularly and that the staff, beyond anything, were always keep to help wherever they could. The service on the steam trains is remarkable, and the renovation of the engines themselves show the sheer dedication of the volunteers. Their specials are... More

Spa Valley Railway should be declared a infectious " Disease " but one with no nasty side affects. We had the good fortune to visit recently when the Railway was hosting a " Back to the 40's " day Complete with period costumes and Rail Fans dressed in uniform with Military Police roaming through the Trains at will checking your... Having visited the station at Groombridge, we found a peaceful haven. For people who have not looked into this railway must understand that it is a very small concern, run by people who spend many hours trying to keep it running. It does not have great funding like other preservation railways but they try. Those of you who think it's... More

Steam railway rides were a treat (or torture) for my daughters when they were small. Now they are grown up I don't do them without a plausible excuse. Well, the cricket was rained off and we were in Tun Wells......obvious choice! A well maintained and organised line and the buffet carriage was immaculate for afternoon tea.

My step-son took me on a trip on Mother's Day and the train was decorated with flowers and lace very pretty. It was such a lovely experience seeing all the countryside pass by, the lakes and fields that you would not know were there otherwise.

Met by polite and helpful staff who gave us good advice to all our questions, prices in the railway shop were average and the journey on the train was good value, stations and gardens kept in very good order and the buildings and coaches of a high standard well worth a visit.
