The railway may only be 5 miles long but the stations and carriages are kept in immaculate condition. As a rail enthusiast it's great as most services alternate between steam & diesel so you get the best of both worlds. However I can see that it may be of limited appeal to some, especially older children, as the ride is... More

I was passing through and went to the main hub at Tunbridge Wells...and the station at Eridge. Although not able to travel the staff there were very accommodating arranging a thorough and interesting tour of the shed and yard..and giving me full directions to Eridge so I could view a particular engine stabled there for the day. I made a... More

This is a small train line between Tunbridge Wells & Groombridge which is full of memorabilia of yesteryear. It is ideal for children to experience how trains used to be & all the pageantry with it. It is nice to feel like you have stepped back in time in the most beautiful Kent's countryside.

We have done this trip twice before but it's a good way to get to  Groombridge Place/Village for the gardens and forest which we have also been too before.  As with many heritage lines, it's ran by volunteers, so all the engines, stations and tracks have been restored and maintained for the love of running this line.  We had a bit... A really friendly steam railway which seems to be the best kept secret in Tunbridge Wells recommended for kids of all ages and they seem to have many child friendly attractions on offer Mike The Knight Pepper Pig Fireman Sam and Thomas the Tank Engine, have even seem that they do a Santa train

A good trip out with my 2 year old. A good length journey and nice step back in time. Very enjoyable round trip.

I (steam buff not an anorak) managed to get the wife (Hooray) to accompany me to the Spa Valley whilst we were travelling in Sussex/Kent on a Thursday as I wanted to visit whilst they were using steam but unfortunately the engine had a problem so they had to use diesel. The journey (Tunbridge Wells West-Groombridge) was rather short and nothing... A small railway well worth visiting but I doubt I will be going back when there are better railways in the South East. To be honest there isn't much to see but that didn't matter to my grandson who loves steam engines. That said he was a bit disappointed that steam trains only ran one way and the return journey... We enjoyed a tasty fish and chip lunch, followed by an ice cream, whilst on a train ride from Tunbridge Wells to Groombridge. Sadly the train was diesel as the steam engine had mechanical problems that day but we still enjoyed our trip. The staff were all polite and very friendly. This was a credit to them as the day... Spa Valley Railway is filled with enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers. I found that the old steam railway had been maintained spectacularly and that the staff, beyond anything, were always keep to help wherever they could. The service on the steam trains is remarkable, and the renovation of the engines themselves show the sheer dedication of the volunteers. Their specials are... More
