Nice day out for train enthusiasts

Really nice experience. A pleasant short journey with lovely views and friendly staff. The ticket is quite cheap so you get a nice experience at a very affordable price.

What a lovely experience! Fantastic staff, most of whom are volunteers, nothing is too much trouble. Beautiful ride pulled by steam train through the countryside and fantastic three course meal served by courteous and polite staff . I expected the drinks on board to be expensive but was surprised to find out they were not. Bar on board one of... More

When I've enjoyed a day out somewhere, I'm always interested to see what others make of it, and I'm particularly curious about the negative reviews. In this case, I think the negative reviews are almost entirely unfair and don't come from a place of realistic expectation of what a railway like this can offer. What it *does* offer is a... More

A fantastic family day out All the staff on the trains and on the platforms were utterly charming. The carriages are very clean, and the seats are so very comfy. Lovely views, lovely stations Why oh why are Southeastern railways not run this well!? I highly recommend this venue

Heritage railways come in all shapes & sizes these days. If you're looking for express steam then this railway is the opposite. A pretty branch line with small trains both steam & diesels. My son & I visited midweek in Aug when the Diesel 'Thumper' unit was running. Both the stations & train are in excellent restored condition. Staff helpful... More

I visited the Spa Valley Railway during their Summer Diesel Gala, which was held between 30 July and 2 August. I hadn't visited previously, so I had no idea what it would be like, but I found it a very pleasant and enjoyable day. As the title of the weekend says, the four days were devoted entirely to diesel traction,... More

My third visit to this railway was the diesel gala in early August 2015. The line has come on leaps and bounds since its extension to Eridge and has a nice branch line feel about it. There was a good selection of locomotives and some imaginary paring up of traction. Indeed as the Gala reached closure the number of loco's... More

An incredibly friendly little railway offering a wide variety of activities to suit both railway enthusiasts and the general public at large. Their summer diesel gala in particular was fantastic!

I have been to many heritage railway s mainly in the Midlands and the North of England as well as East Anglia. My experience of my first visit to Spa Valley for the diesel gala obviously compares these other railways. Dear Richard, Thank you very much for taking the time to post feedback, and also for coming to visit in the first place! I appreciate your remarks about access to operational areas like signal boxes - normally we are more than happy to show visitors round these things and we take pleasure in explaining how and why things work as...
