Visited as a family on Halloween during the day. They had a marquee with arts and crafts for the kids which was great. Joined the ghost tour outside the tea rooms and this was led by a costumed guide and we also met a few more costumed ghosts along the tour. With the added low mist due to bad weather... more

Last went to Dover over 30 years ago and have been wanting to return ever since. The tunnels were an unexpected surprise, very interesting and the guide was very informative. The costumed guides add to the attraction and the one we chatted to in the king's bedroom in the keep was amusing and knowledgeable. Lots of walking. more

We visited Dover Castle a few days ago, whilst in the area. Both my husband and I are members of Historic Scotland, and therefore get free membership into English Heritage properties; after visiting Dover Castle, all I can say is thank goodness! I would have been really, really annoyed if I'd paid the £13.40 adult admission price, as there really... more

We were lucky to see the keep just after they re-opened it. They did a great job - excellently restored. What a great sweep of history. This place has been defending the island for literally thousands of years, and you can really sense the history from Roman times right up through WW II. Lot of military interest - the guys... more

I wasn't sure what to expect from Dover, but I absolutely loved my day there. I could have spent the whole day along the nearby Cliffs of Dover. Alternatively I could have spent another day at the castle. Unfortunately the Norman Keep was closed (opens Aug '09) as its being refurbished. But at least now I have an excuse to... more

since the keep was closed, we only did the castle walk and when to the shops. It was really, really windy and we could barely stand up so then we just parked ourselves in the store and shopped for things like ice cream, candy, soda.... and princess dresses. it was a ton of fun and anyone who wants a fun... more

Dover Castle was a great day out. The wartime tunnels tour was great and well setup. The castle keep was closed but we still enjoyed the castle grounds. The kids enjoyed the whole trip but the tunnels did worry them a little. more

I had wanted to go here for so long and after having finally visited I was not disappointed. There was a lot to see since the material heritage presented spans from Roman times through WWII. Don't miss the WWII War Tunnels. You must go on a guided tour only and I was surprised at how huge they were. The rooms... more

It's very easy to regard Dover only as a place for getting the ferry. Even if you regularly stay here, it's often en route to France. However, it's well worth stopping a few extra hours and taking in the Castle. Site itself is magnificent, wih amazing views, really making you think about the role of Britian as a marine nation... more

I wish I could say Dover castle was worth visiting, but it really isn't. There seems to be no effort put into the place. If you like to walk around an empty castle, with room after room of bare empty space, then you will love this place. There were two rooms that were of "interest". One was labelled as the... more
