Dover Castle was a great day out. The wartime tunnels tour was great and well setup. The castle keep was closed but we still enjoyed the castle grounds. The kids enjoyed the whole trip but the tunnels did worry them a little. more

It's very easy to regard Dover only as a place for getting the ferry. Even if you regularly stay here, it's often en route to France. However, it's well worth stopping a few extra hours and taking in the Castle. We were at Dover Castle on March 22, which was a great time to avoid crowds. The Secret Wartime Tunnels onsite are definitely worth seeing. As you drive down towards the coast you get a fantastic view of Dover Castle. It was a surprise to me as, for some reason, I thought it was a ruin but it is in fact completely intact, with fortification walls and a keep. Although a bit expensive (£9.50) it is a good day out.
