We had a great day out at Howletts and would thoroughly recommend it to everyone. It is a big zoo but the star attraction here are the gorrillas. The grounds are really nice and the exhibits are superb. The zoo has some excellent tiger exhibits with three different species on show. We found it fascinating comparing the differences between them.... more

We have been to Howlett's quite a few times as we live locally. We went last week and the kids had great fun. My only complaint is that the entrance fee is expensive - well it is when you have three children - and I was shocked at the prices in the cafeteria. I ordered three portions of chips and... more

This stunning zoo is a real gem for those who appreciate what zoos should be doing in the 21st Century. It's hugely successful gorilla breeding programme has led to young apes being returned to Africa and while we were there, three were on their way 'home' that day. The zoo is a bit rustic, and the signage is not great,... more

I've been to several zoos in the last 5 years, including London Zoo and L.A. Zoo. This one had the great advantage that all the enclosures were huge. Not once did I look at an animal and feel sorry for them being in a cage. I'm sure all zoos do everything they can to make the animals happy, and the... more

Visited this wild animal park with my 4 year old twins, Parking was easy, no long walk from the carpark, plenty to see and do more than enough to keep 2 active 4 year olds and occupied happy, they both could not contain their excitement at seeing monkeys and elephants (their favorite animals) up close. Make sure you take the... more

Visited Howletts late Sunday afternoon (22/04/07) as an unplanned trip. Arrived around 2.45pm (park closes at 6pm) found car parking area on site not busy, no queues at the entrance. Lovely relaxed atmosphere around the park, plenty of information about the animals signposted next to the cages. Great gorillas and tigers. Lot of walking involved so allow plenty of time... more
