I read some of the previous reviews for this museum and was surprised to see complaints that it was too child oriented. That is a wonderful feature of many of the museums my son and I have visited in Britain. Engaging children in the learning experience, encouraging them to appreciate the concept of a museum, and see how history is... More

Great little museum. Really enjoyed the history from pre-Roman, Roman, Anglo-Saxon, medieval, etc. Nice write-up on Thomas Becket as expected. My favorite aspect was the 60' frieze (poor man's Bayeux Tapestry) that explains the Becket murder and aftermath. Really well done. Children are free.

we went with the children as canterbury cathedral closed [new archbishop! such bad timing!!] and were pleasantly surprised, the children were kept interested as they looked around [currently a high priority for me] and there were additional info areas for adults. the best bit in my mind was the wittily drawn and penned life of becket.

Called in here initially to shelter from the freezing cold and visit somewhere else before visit to Canterbury Cathedral in the afternoon, didn't expect to be here so long but we were here for ages as both my hubby and I was fascinated with the history of Canterbury and it's exhibitions. Normally my husband is usually well ahead of me... More

Like most local museums you learn about the local history, geography and local finds including Anglo-Saxon treasures. Best of the lot, Oliver Postgate's animated work was on display including Bagpuss, Ivor the Engine and Nogin the Nog. Plus for train buffs Stephenson's original Invicta railway engine. Great stuff, plus a nice souvenir shop

Decided to spend some time here with my 9 year old daughter. I had read the positive reviews as well as a couple of negative ones. Thankfully it was very quiet they today but the weather will have played a part in that I think. What a perfect afternoons entertainment on a winter's day. Only a short walk from the... More

Had I known of the quality of this museum I would not have wasted my time. There are things for children but limited creative engagement for adults. They talk about some things that are better seen elsewhere -- the Cathedral and the Docks. They offer to sell you a double ticket so that you can see the Roman Museum...lots of... More

I've been here several times in the 3yrs I've lived in Canterbury. There are, as you'd expect, some really fascinating local finds, (though, maybe, less than you might expect considering the heritage of the City)...but if you are British and in your 40s seeing the original Bagpuss, Clangers, Ivor the Engine, and Noggin the Nog are almost 'transcendental'! All I'd... More

Very child focussed, but I was left wanting more information on some exhibits. If you're into nostalgia then the Rupert the Bear and Bagpuss sections are great. On the whole a rather superficial museum.

While visiting Canterbury on a day out with the coach company we were travelling with, I decided asI am a lover of museums and knowing what a town was like many years earlier, I went straight to the Heritage Museum after hearing from the Tourist Information Centre of it's existence it cost only £8.00 for an Adult and £6.00 for...
