Beautiful, well maintained gardens alongside the River Stour. The cycle / footpath from Chartham to Canterbury passes through the gardens, making a lovely interlude if you walk into the city.

I Visited the Westgate gardens with my partner in October. I was interested by its position as Number 2 on trip advisor for Canterbury although retrospectively looking back I believe it’s one of those attractions that becomes artificially raised due to the fact that it is free to visit. The park itself is fairly unremarkable when compared to others in... More

Leave enough time after the Cathedral, especially if it's a nice day, to walk up te main street (past Beaney's Art Museum) to the river past Westgate. Really peaceful and picturesque. Of course if it's raining, stay at Beaney's or the Cathedral or the Roman Museum.

Nice location for tourist snaps next to the stour. Many benches to sit and watch world go by. Some interesting trees, and bridges to cross over to take pictures from. Does seem to attract special brew drinking types who can appear intimidating but are harmless, Just wish these wasters would stay out of the war memorial section. Students and teens... More

Walking through history and in the summer, the flowers are just great. At this time, there is a section undergoing restoration, but this will be completed shortly.

This is a lovely, quiet oasis of calm in the midst of Canterbury's attmpt at hurley burley. I cut my knee open on the flint walls when I was five, and the scar remains more than fifty years later. I was lucky enough for this to have been my playground when a child and my favourite courting spot as a... More

Right in the middle of Canterbury and yet feels off the beaten track. Fantastic little park/gardens, a real treat to sit and read here during warm summer days.

Strolled through after doing a walk from an AA book. It's just like a town park - flower beds etc - but the river makes it nice. I concur with the comments about the tanked up dudes. Could do with moving them on.

Really is a fantastic place to sit and relax, very busy in the summer months with people sunbathing, playing football, families feeding ducks or tourists punting along the river but you never feel overcrowded and can always find your 'own space' Just along from Canterbury West station and right next to the West Gate Towers, well worth a visit to...
