Owner description: Created as the perfect house in the perfect setting, Berrington has many secrets to uncover. Here in one of Henry Holland’s first houses, you can explore the family rooms and walk in the servants’ footsteps down the back stairs, moving around the house unseen by the family and guests. You will find out what happened to William Kemp, LordCawley’s butler, and discover the anguish of a grieving mother during the First World War. Alternatively why not join a below-stairs tour to see if you would have liked being a servant at Berrington?

Helpful staff, giving good history information. Not too precious regarding furniture, I was allowed to sit on chairs and take in the atmosphere. Some of the rooms are in near darkness for atmosphere or to preserve the decor. The interest continues throughout the house. The gardens are nice for a stroll.

Smaller than many National Trust house but none the worse for that. Well worth a visit and don't forget to also visit the local Eye Church where the horrors of the First World War are brought to lhome by the plaques commemorating the sons of Berrington Hall killed in the war.

A perfect end to to a family outing to the historic border town Ludlow. Berrington Hall is a one of our favourite National Trust Houses we enjoy exploring the walled garden and strolling in the parkland designed by Capability Brown.During our first Winter time visit we enjoyed the seasonal decorations Christmas trees and table settings which enhanced the various rooms.The... I visited the hall and grounds last summer and really enjoyed my day out. There are formal gardens and landscaped grounds, both very relaxing and of a high standard. I spent a lot of time in the grounds and found them very enjoyable. Parking is readily available and access would be easy for those with children in pushchairs. We really... More

Interesting house and information. Suggest combining with visit to croft castle nearby as could not spend day there. Rained when leaving, so only visited small garden near car park.

This really very compact country house had an amazing number of interlocking rooms. The furnishings and décor were all in keeping as befits a NT property and the 'Pride and Prejudice' costumes were extremely interesting. Loved the impressive walled garden and bought some vegetables grown there from the very knowledgeable and helpful volunteers. Went on the 'downstairs' tour, which I... More

A lovely Georgian house with incredible ceilings. We felt the information here was not very good. At the entrance we were provided with a rather tatty laminated sheet of 10 items of interest in the house but the usual information sheet in each room seemed to be lacking. It was interesting to see the costumes but more interesting to see the... Berrington was not a happy home; an air of sadness pervades the whole place as though its melancholy ghosts wander relentlessly seeking rest and solace, yet finding none. Lady Catherine de Burgh may have thought the park small, the house not quite grand enough, the aspect not as imposing as she would have it, though, had Mr and Mrs Bennett... More

Full of Pride and Prejudice costumes, wife loved it. I found the house a bit too dark but well presented.

Berrington Hall is well worth a visit. There is plenty of information on display and guides are present to give you more if you need it. At the time of our visit there was a costume display, including those used in the BBC's Pride and Prejudice series, which made the visit even more interesting. We didn't get a chance to... More
