Created as the perfect house in the perfect setting, Berrington has many secrets to uncover. Here in one of Henry Holland’s first houses, you can explore the family rooms and walk in the servants’ footsteps down the back stairs, moving around the house unseen by the family and guests. You will find out what happened to William Kemp, LordCawley’s butler, and discover the anguish of a grieving mother during the First World War. Alternatively why not join a below-stairs tour to see if you would have liked being a servant at Berrington?

A lovely house and grounds. The house is beautiful and you can walk through the rooms and the NT have really made an effort to tell the story of the owners and its connection with the local area. We generally visit once a year as it's not that far away. The coffee shop is well catered for and in the... More

Staff are really friendly here. And it's a lot different from lots of other national trust places in that there isn't a guide constantly following you about, and you can actually touch and pick up things.

Nice place to visit, coffee rooms are warm and most importantly dry! Interesting house. If you are going in winter wear good footwear if you walk the grounds, after squelching down to the lake we were glad for out boots! Good in wet weather!

We loved the inside of this house (the outside is a bit depressing), though it is in a beautiful setting with lovely views around it. It's not vast, but even though it's quite grand, it still has a lovely homely feel about it. The staff were very knowledgeable and very helpful.

From the interesting entrance hall to the below stairs laundry oom each room had a distinctive character derived from its past function. The volunteer guides were exceptionally keen to impart historical knowledge and their enthusiasm and love for the building positively radiated.

We visited during the Halls Georgian Christmas event. The was talks on a number of 16/17 century crafts, there was also a demonstration of period dancing. Added to this the Hall itself which is majestic and beautify sat in a country park of Capability Brown design. All in all a great visit with I would recommend to everyone.

Georgian Christmas was delightful. The enactment group were first class with information about clothes, life style and medical matters. Well done! I was disappointed that the masquerade ball did not take place on Sunday 13th, let down by the dance troop apparently. The guided tour was also interesting and very well presented. We have been to Berrington many times, never... More

Berrington Hall is well worth seeing at any time, but, if you get a chance, visit next weekend whilst they still have the house decorated for a Georgian Christmas. We have seen a number of NT properties with the Victorian theme at this time of year- and enjoyed them a lot. This was unusual, and delightful. Subdued 'candle' lights, feather... More

I just want to say thank you to all the volunteers at the Hall. It makes such a difference when you're walking round a place like Berrington to meet so many happy and helpful people- it makes the visit special. The Hall was beautifully set up for Christmas and the horse drawn carriage added another level of authenticity .
