Created as the perfect house in the perfect setting, Berrington has many secrets to uncover. Here in one of Henry Holland’s first houses, you can explore the family rooms and walk in the servants’ footsteps down the back stairs, moving around the house unseen by the family and guests. You will find out what happened to William Kemp, LordCawley’s butler, and discover the anguish of a grieving mother during the First World War. Alternatively why not join a below-stairs tour to see if you would have liked being a servant at Berrington?

Great grounds for walking

We stopped off to have a picnic. The grounds are extensive with a circular walk which takes you past the lake. We didn't visit the Hall but the grounds were well worth a visit.

After a disappointing visit to Croft Castle, we decided to visit Berrington Hall on our way home. What a difference! Although busy, the volunteers had time to talk to you and explain where everything was. The building inside was stunning, the displays of costumes were wonderful and the upstairs area was fantastic. The living quarters of the butler was so... More

Lovely Gardens and great walks, but if the property hadn't got the Jane Austen clothing exhibition, it would have been very ordinary.

A fine red sandstone Georgian Palladian style house of pleasant size, not to big. It reminded me of the boarding school I went to in North Wales down along drive through magnificent parkland. The interiors accordingly superior but don't expect good pictures except for a few Luny's (Thomas Luny, marine artist). Usual good cafe etc and second hand bookshop.

A lovely property, with an exhibition of costumes from Jane Austen productions and very knowledgable guides. This house seems very welcoming and is not overwhelming in size. The marble columns are beautiful and very tactile. We loved the locally made jewellery in the gift shop that is based on the columns, the Capability Brown parkland and the wisteria.

The gardens are lovely at this time of year with lots of color all around. It is worth walking down to the lake to see the water birds and if you Andre lucky, like we were, small chicks as well. Barrington Hall was a lovely building and the staff were very helpful, worth a visit if you are near by.

Berrington Hall is a national trust building that houses some wonderful displays of costumes from period dramas and films. The staff are knowledgeable and eager to impart their copious facts and figures surrounding the history of the place. While there we encountered some top class side saddle demonstrations and some endearing commentary on side saddle riding and clothing. The house... More

This a lovely almost cosy large house set in a beautiful estate. Release your inner Jane Austen and dream of who might be round the corner. I don't remember a lake tho' sadly..... However there is a good tea room! The staff are very well informed and there are treasures all around.

I visited with four eighty year olds and they had such fun trying on the wigs and costumes - giggling like children again! The scullery and butlers quarters had them reminiscing about blue bags and laundries and I too (daughter) absolutely loved the fact that the house felt as though it had been lived in recently. The hands on rather... More
