Fantastic. The whole story of how it was found, what each little figure means is amazing. The chained library is a masterpiece. The docents are happy to answer any question you have plus give you some great side stories. This is worth a visit again and again. Please see this wonder.

A unique way to get an insight into the medieval mind. The quirky world map with its mythical creatures and strangely shaped countries was just as fascinating as the chained library. the two volunteers on duty were a fountain of knowledge and engaged all the visitors in an informative discussion. Well worth the entrance fee!

I live locally but have only seen it once it's worth seeing if you find maps/ history interesting I thought it was expensive for what I was but you do get to see the chained library as well.

It is difficult to make an incredibly out-of-date map interesting, expecially when it won't get you from A to B by the shortest possible route, and may actually get you utterly lost, so Hereford has done its best with a rather unprepossessing artifact.

Worth a visit but quite expensive, only suitable for children if they are interested & old enough to do the quiz & brass rubbings.

The exhibition before seeing the Mappa Mundi is very informative and helps to explain what you see. Without it would be difficult to work out why Jerusalem is at the centre of the map with Asia at the top, Europe at the bottom left and Africa at the bottom right. The Chained Library is also interesting but spoiled to my... More

This was brilliant - the explanatory exhibition leading to the amazing Mappa Mundi was so good and an essential part of the whole experience. There was a guide happy to explain the Mappa Mundi itself to any one who wanted this, and this added to the enjoyment and appreciation of this incredible object. The chained library was fascinating and an... More

This really challenges our modern view that people must have been 'simpler' in medieval times. The map clearly illustrates a sophistication that is awesome, as well as the skills required to create it.
