I have always loved maps and the world map (mappa mundi) shows how advanced this map was from so long ago. The guides love their job and are so knowledgeable. £6 may seem a lot for s corridor, but the mundi itself is worth it, let alone the chained library.

Map is on Vellum and shows how the world was viewed by Christian scholars. The chained library demonstrates how valuable these wonderful hand scribed books were.

This was fascinating as it showed a map of the world as known at the time of drawing. Fascinating to see it as was before the new world was discovered and the animals therein. Also the chained library, I found bizarre to see books actually chained to protect them, and why not? They were so precious and so expensive to... More

Although there are really only the two items to see, the exhibition itself is well thought out so by the time you actually get to the Mappa Mundi you have discovered a lot about it and what to look for. Make use of the staff in each room to ask questions. We found them very helpful and knowledgeable.

The Mappa Mundi is certainly worth seeing at any time - and a digitally enhanced copy is available to pore over if the original proves a little blurred after 700 years - but even older and in amazing condition is the 1217 Magna Carta, a revision of the 1215 document that is having its 800th anniversary commemorated this year. The... More

Going to a tour of a chained library and to see an ancient map, and listening to someone telling you about it might sound off-putting to some, but don't be put off! Go along and you'll be blown away by how fascinating this tour is, and how much the guides put into passing on their enthusiasm to you.

The exhibit is in Hereford cathedral which makes for a double feature! There is an entry fee of 5 pounds to see the exhibit but it is worth it. An introductory video prepares you before you enter. At the time we went, they also had the 1217 Magna Carta on display. The staff were very helpful and available to answer... More
