Very interesting. An excellent contrast and end to an active cycling trip. Educational. Calming. Not too overwhelming as some exhibitions can be. They also have a range of entrance fees: one person, two people, family, large, medium and small. A lovely method. Welcoming staff.

The Mappa Mundi exhibition is excellent and well worth a visit. It also currently has the 1217 version of Magna Carta on exhibition. The stewards are extremely knowledgeable and willing to answer any question, or try and find the answer if they do not know.

just the joy of seeing something so old, and trying to get into the mind of the Monks in that age., and how they viewed the world.

As part of our visit to Hereford Cathedral, we investigated the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library exhibition. At the time we visited, the Magna Carta exhibition was also on. If you are interested at all in the history of our country, and our influence on the world at large, this is well worth a visit. The Chained Library contains a... More

We couldn't pass up the opportunity to see this piece of history and we weren't disappointed. It's worth letting the guide explain the detail on an English translation of the map so you can equate that to the real map. As an added bonus on the visit they were displaying the Magna Carta. A very important document for the western... More

I loved visiting the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library, but was totally disappointed in being prohibited from taking photos....not even with a paid ticket. I don't learn as much with a once over like that...... But seeing the original copy of the Magna Carta is a real thrill. The Chained Library was my favourite, because it really impresses upon you... An excellent exhibition in the Cathedral cloisters, next to a rather good café. In the exhibition is a 1217 original version of the Magna Carta, and the Mappa Mundi - an early map of the world. Well explained, well presented, with knowledgeable guides too.

The chained library is fascinating and well worth a visit, you can imagine the monks sitting in front of these chained books writing and studying. The Mappa Mundi is in a darkened room to protect it so give your eyes time to get used to the darkness before looking at it its amazing.

This is a must see exhibition. The entrance area and approach to the chained library is really interesting and it is worth taking your time to digest all the information as it makes sense when you reach the real artifacts. When you see the actual writing in the Magna Carta it is so small and precise, you can not see... More

the mappa mundi is a wonderful artifact, the replicas dont do it justice, you do have to look at this in the flesh to appreciate its beautiful craftsmanship, its presivation is remarkable, it really does convey some sense of the world view of the artist. having said that, the exibition is very small and can be seen in ten minutes...
