On my list of places to visit and I wasn't disappointed. The entrance fee of £6 per person, includes the Mappa Mundi, The Magna Carta and the chained library. The volunteers at the entrance desk and in the various areas of the exhibitions were very keen and knowledgeable. Well worth a visit.

With quite a reasonable entrance fee of £6, this is essentially 3 attractions in 1. The main focus is on the Mappa Mundi itself with a number of displays containing information and a short video detailing its history. The Magna Carta is in the same darkened room as the map and the chained library (exactly what it says on the... More

You only need an hour to do this thoroughly, but it was well worth a visit. I was enthralled, and it's especially good if you're into maps. It does get a bit same - I mean it's £6 entrance to look at a map - but they do tell you about it in several different ways. The chained library is... More

spent a couple of hours here and really enjoyed it. The Mappa Mundi is really interesting. Normally I prefer to read about stuff but there was a guide with the mappa mundi and one with the chained library who rather insisted in talking to me but I'm so glad they did. Very knowledgable, very interesting. At the moment there is... More

3 things to see at this site - Mappa Mundi, Magna Carta and chained library, and right next to the lovely Cathedral. Good value entrance fee. Best bit was not the map itself as it's hard to see the details, but the facsimile with the Latin translated into English. Ask the very knowledgeable guides for more insights. Do look carefully... Fantastic exhibition made even better with the magna carta exhibition being on at the same time. Just remember that the cathedral is closed on a Sunday for the exhibition due to services but open at 10 am all other mornings. Go early as it can get busy.

A beautiful building that compliments the Cathedral and the fantastic Mappa Mundi and Chained Library. I last visited the library when it was situated in a tower inside the Cathedral and thought that it would be sad to see it in a modern setting but how wrong I was. A must see for visitors and Herefordians

This was top of my list of things to do while visiting Hereford. The exhibition contains The Mappa Mundi,a map made of vellum dating back to 1300 depicting how people perceived the world to be back then. Also a 1217 copy of Magna Carta & of course the chained library that has books dating back to the 8th century.Guides will happily explain... I love maps, so to see the Mappa Mundi, created circa 1300, as an illustration of how they understood the geography of the world, was fascinating. Seeing original manuscripts, written by quill, probably in candlelight, brought home the enormity of the task monks and scholars took on. Seeing (and smelling) hundreds of volumes in the chained library (yep, the books... More

This is a must visit. PLease talk to the staff from the early 'trunks' that held the books and relics to the magnificent Mappa Mundi and now the Magna Carta!
