Beautiful grounds and while area is full of wonderful walks, narrow streets oozing with character and history. We could not go into school itself, they do guided tours at fixed times in the day. Sadly we missed these. Maybe next time.

A guided tour through Winchester College is a "must" for visitors to the city. Although not all areas of the campus are open to tours, our knowledgeable guide left us feeling as if we had seen far more than we actually did. We love history and were not disappointed by the stories and vignettes of student life through the centuries.... More

Paid £7 for a one hour guided tour. The lady who took us round was extremely knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. There were only 4 of us in the group so it was quite personal. Found out lots about the traditions of the school and what life is like there today. Tour ended up nearly 1 1/2 hours which was great... More

My wife and I have been to Winchester many, many times over the years but have never paid much attention to the college. I decided to take my wife there as part of a day out. We arrived for an 1130 hrs tour at the Porters Lodge where our guide awaited us. The tour lasted for over an hour and... More

Guided tours are the only means of gaining entry. Photography is not allowed indoors. This may sound restrictive but is reasonable in practice. You are entering England's oldest college but one that is very much in use, by some 700 "boys" And "scholars", the latter indicating students who did particularly well on their entrance exam. Students are not to be... More

A real experience of the past and an insite into how education was in the past. A museum included of ancient artifacts.

Winchester College built in 1382 for 70 students who were instructed in religous studies. Today the school has 670 boys, 70 who still live in. Tours run every couple of hours and last for an hour. Steeped in history from across six centuries the college is a must see when visiting Winchester. The guide was very good and passionate about... More

Winchester College is a glorious historic building, still a working school so access is by tours at set times only: the times are posted on their website so check before you go and don't just turn up in the hope of wandering around as I did. I was lucky to join a tour with just one other person on it,... More

A fascinating peek into the way we were in earlier times. The guides are very knowledgeable and the history and architecture of this beautiful school are highly recommended.

My daughter attended Ingenium Academy this summer which is an international music camp hosted at Winchester College. In so doing, we were able to have a tour of the college which is over 500 years old and still serves the nation as a boys school to this day. Stone gargoyles and statues, winding stone steps, bridges over streams gurgling by,... More
