Winchester College is what we Americans class as a middle school / high school. On the day I visited, there were only two people on the one hour tour. Our guide was well informed on the school's history. If you can attend the Evensong liturgy in the school chapel.

A group of us stayed in Winchester overnight and decided to visit a few sites, one of these included a guided tour of Winchester College. It cost £5.00 and was excellent! Out guide was called Muddy and he was really good and took us on a very interesting and informative tour of the college all done in a very humorous... More

Nice grounds and historic buildings; tour times not that convenient, especially for day trippers from London

The Winchester College Chapel is a wonderful site to see. It is in the middle of the oldest public school for boys in the UK and has all of the charm that one would expect from the traditions and legacies from this college. The only way to see Winchester and its sites is with a local greeter. The greeters are... More

It was almost jolly in its colouring, yet a very sobering memorial. The flint work was unlike any I have seen before - such a rich texture and colour. And the regimental roundels are so bright and delightful. It is a sad memorial of the cost while being a celebration of achievement.

We enjoyed the most interesting hour long tour with our guide who brought the past to life. A remarkable heritage site.

This was a real gem. It is a working public school set in 14C buildings. Each part of the tour will surprise and amaze you. If you have mobility problems, there are very rough cobbles, uneven surfaces and steps to one area, however if you can manage it you will just love it

Great buildings set behind the cathedral and close to the Bishops Palace and the river. Visiting is possible out of term times. Take in the college book shop just along the road - a truly great bookstore with all the ambiance of its age. Just through the city gate is the cathedral close and cathedral itself.

I was one of a group of four in a guided tour of the college and found it fascinating. I learned the origin of the phrase 'a square meal', and was amazed to see that the five-hundred-year-old tables and benches are still used today in the refectory. The idea of putting notices around a tree that everyone passes instead of... More
