Upon entering the hall I was half thinking "is this it?" as it is one big hall with a few panels and some (seemingly oddly placed) statues and ornaments, as if they were gifted to the city and they had nowhere else to put them. There was still some interesting information on the panels, and the statues and the table... More

This is amazingly well taken care of and marked out very well so you know what everything used to be.

The hall is a fantastic building and worth a visit (there is no fixed fee, but donations are invited). As to the table - Round Certainly, Arthurian - Certainly Not - Medieval Fantasy : Make your own mind up. An Iconic English site - If you are in the city make sure you pay it a quick visit.

I really liked the Round table and the wall decorated with the names of MP's representing the area over many hundreds of years. Eleanor's Garden was pretty and had a fountain, but I thought the Long Gallery area was disappointing.

It is some years since we last visited The Great Hall and whilst in The City for the day we were glad we decided to return. Walking in from the High Street we initially came across the steps which are opposite the Hall entrance and take you down into the lower parts of the Castle. Interesting in themselves and with... Love stumbling across this place. Firstly went around the garden - compact and beautiful with many features. Then from the gardens in through a door to The Great Hall - wow ! Most people will write about the round table - but the overwhelming eye catching feature is the inscribed frond wall. and the stained glass windows were a story... More

Amazing and atmospheric hall, oozing history. Peaceful garden attached. Free entry. Recommended. The metalwork gates inside are stunning.

My grandfather believed, as a child, that the round table really did belong to King Arthur. Worth a visit for those interested in the early history of Winchester.

Winchester, is a town steeped in history and very easy to get around. Start by parking in the south carpark(free on Sunday) walk past the impressive statue of Alfred the great. Up to the high street. Loads of shops and cafe to get a quick coffee. The great hall and cathedral are impressive and take your time to have a... More

Free to entert but donations accepted. A lovely building, full of interest but right at the top of town so a hilly walk up. How ever it was worth the effort. Could fell the atmosphere of times gone by, on visiting the toilet area we came upon a whole corridor full of stories and information, beautifully presented along the walls.... More
