Spend a little time taking the walk up to see the great hall and the round table (replica idea). There are so few vast halls it is worth the time and the view from the city wall over modern Winchester is delightful.

Great Hall has stood for centuries, and is magnificent inside - not ornate, but size wise. Has the Round Table from Arthur, loads of interesting reading, and a small quiet garden for those needing a rest! A must see in Winchester.

Our first stop in the town - and we really enjoyed the history it represents. Well presented, beautifully quiet on our visit, and the garden at the rear of the property is beautifully presented.

But there is not much of the original castle remaining, just the Great Hall. Home to King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, as well as William the Conqueror's son. Beautiful stained glass windows

This was one of the main sites that we wanted to see on our visit to Winchester, but it was completely closed to visitors for four days (during our visit), so we missed it. I was so excited about seeing King Arthur's Round Table, and missing out on that was a huge disappointment. We found out later that it was... More

I had long wanted to visit the Hall and Castle and was not disappointed. It was fantastic to see the round table and read the history of the buildings.

The Great Hall in Winchester is part of the old castle, and contains a replica of King Arthur's Round Table, a huge bronze statue of Queen Victoria and an interesting gallery of Winchester's history and development. The real gem though is Queen Eleanor's Garden, just out the back of the Great Hall, a lovely little historically-planted garden. You can see... More

We visited the castle on a trip to Winchester. The castle is famous for housing the round table and is free to visitors. Visitors can see the main hall, a gallery and a poorly stocked shop. The information about the history of the castle and the legend of the round table was not presented well. The castle does not compare... More
