Our last call on our day in Winchester was the Great Hall, all that is left of the castle apart from a bit of a subterranean passageway. It is still intact, which makes it unusual, and it is enormous, more like a cathedral than a Great Hall. Sadly, from our point of view, it was being used for a performance... More

The original Great Hall is all that remains of Winchester Castle. There are a few excavated portions of wall to see and it is possible to walk around these. The Hall itself is glorious with beautiful stained glass windows and fabulous roof. The Round Table, which dates from the 12th century, is hanging on the wall at one end. There... More

Decided to visit Winchester on a whim. Parking very difficult to find, eventually managed to find some street parking near to the Great Hall, but with only 1 hours parking! The Round Table and Great Hall are fascinating .....and free to visit. On leaving through Queen Eleanors garden, we passed The Ghurkas museum, which we would have liked to visit,... More

It's free and unguided. Make sure to visit Queen Eleanor's garden as well. The Hall has King Arthur's Round Table mounted high on the west wall, plus other notes about the structure and fittings. Small gift shop and gallery up stairs

It is a lovely walk to the Great Hall from the main street. You will not spend hours here but what you do see is worth the visit. The round table is amazing and was the main reason we went to Winchester for a weekend. I was not disappointed and it is not often you get to see things like... More

The Great Hall is at the top of the high street near the Westgate Museum. Its an amazing piece of architecture & well worth the optional £2 entry donation. King Arthurs round table hangs from one wall. High vaulted ceilings and beautiful windows complete the building. A small garden is at the back of the building too.

Although it is free, there is not too much to see. An historical building - the Round Table and some impressive stained glass windows. Queen Eleanor's garden was disappointing. Not much of the castle remains, but the surrounding buildings are quite imposing

If it wasn't King Arthur's round table at least they know its been there for at least 700 years. Do ask the attendance about the history of the place. Last case tried there was the IRA Price sisters, I understand

We visited on a freezing cold day, and I think this would be better appreciated on a warmer day. The old castle ruins were interesting, but it would have been good to have a little more information than the very limited sign on the outside. The Great Hall is spectacular and there are some activities for children to do in... More

Not much to see really in the great hall but a good little museum/gallery which gives a lot of information if you like reading. Good if your into your history.
