The Great Hall is one of the finest surviving medieval aisled halls of the 13th century and is all that remains of Winchester Castle. The Great Hall is open daily to the public offering a unique historical experience and the chance to see the greatest symbol of medieval mythology: King Arthur's Round Table.

Visitors can also see Queen Eleanor's garden, a recreation of an enclosed medieval garden, providing an injection of nature. Our knowledgeable custodians offer guided tours to unlock the historical journey of the Great Hall and Winchester castle, from William the Conqueror to the present day.

This place was a little confusing. Some of the people that were working there didn't seem to know anything about it and pushed us to buy a programme which we didn't really want to do but we spent an interesting hour walking around.

Free in (although donations are accepted) and a pleasant enough way to spend an hour. The information boards dotted around the hall are surprisingly interesting too.

To be honest, I felt that the "entrance fee" was too expensive and it didn't worth the actual sum. Other than that, a little place full of history and mystery.

Four of us visited the Great Hall on 21 Jan. Entry is free and a £3 donation is suggested. The hall itself is on a grand scale and has a number of useful historical notes. There is a small medieval garden to the side and a gallery with interesting copies of portraits of people associated with the Hall and associated... More

No admission charge but donations welcome. Well labelled exhibits in the main hall including the round table and continues upstairs with displays along the corridor by the obligatory gift shop. Very good toilets for visitors too. The small historic garden was appealing even though weather cold.

Beautiful grand hall with a great deal of historical interest. The gallery display is particularly well done. Love the 1980s steel gates.
