I visited the Museum last week. It is well laid out with a wealth of information and background for both the Military History enthusiast and those young and old who wish to learn a bit more about our Military heritage. The VC's are impressive and the Battle of Waterloo diorama with commentary memorable. The diorama itself is superb and explanation... More

This was an excellent exhibition from start to finish. It was nice that you could have hands on some of the exhibits.I would make one observation though, that is that the clock for the countdown to view the Diorama should have been positioned on the outside wall rather than on the inside.Well done to the team who put this together.

Spent a weekend in Winchester, with some friends and decided to visit the military museums. What a great and interesting time we had. The museums are situated in Peninsula Barracks with fantastic surroundings, the Waterloo exhibit is just amazing with explanations of how the battle was fought and lost. If you are in Winchester or the surrounding areas it is... More

The museum is set amongst the Peninsular Barracks, a collection of fine period buildings and houses an extremely informative history of The Royal Green Jackets regiment. The current centre piece is a fabulous diorama of the Battle of Waterloo and listening to the commentary and watching the battlefield light up one can understand and appreciate the enormity of the battle... Took my 9 year old son to this museum during the Easter school holidays. It is on a site with a number of other military related museums and was just a 10 minute stroll from Winchester Station. It was surprisingly quiet when we visited and we were quite happy to linger over the range of exhibits. Have not seen so... More

The museum has recently opened its new display for the events up to, and including the battle of Waterloo. With major funding from the Lottery, over half of the top floor has been beautifully redesigned to show the exhibits off to their best. The large diorama of the battle has been cleaned and re-presented in a new case with a... More

This is a bigger than average military museum with a unique selling point in having a huge diorama of the Battle of Waterloo. It is worth going to see even if military museums are not really your thing. The diorama has over 20,000 scale models of French and British soldiers. At first glance it is rather confusing but the audio-visual... More

We were greated warmly and shown the best way to explore. All the exhibits were in date order with first class descriptions. There were chairs to sit on if you wanted time to read all about any battle of interest. A top class military museum.

A really inspiring Museum. It is worth visiting despite the walk up the hill from down-town Winchester. The Museum is currently undergoing a refurbishment/improvement to the Battle of Waterloo diorama which when completed (in March) will be an added attraction.
