I really enjoyed this museum, I remember visiting it many years ago before the refit. I liked the way the museum flowed and in fact I could have spent a lot more time there then we had. There is bucket loads of information so take your time and be prepared to read quite a lot. The Waterloo Diorama is absolutely... More

My wife and I live in Winchester and walk past this excelent museum often. We have taken our family, grandchildren and friends from around the world. This museum is very down to earth in being very real an explains life in the army across history in a very understandable and quite simple way. You pay a small entry fee with... More

Great & interesting museum, super for boys! Dressing up, model soldiers, medals & interesting exhibition of the battle of Waterloo. Set by beautiful square with attractive buildings & water fountains. Lovely walk through the old streets down to the cathedral & city centre. Children free. Well worth a visit.

Well worth a visit. Packed with history and interesting things! So much to see. The Waterloo section is amazing and explains the battle very clearly. Allow plenty of time.

Great hommage to a great regiment. We visited the Waterloo exhibition which was excellent (except for the 'small' gaffe of having Antwerp as Amsterdam on all maps, quite painful for someone from Antwerp). A pity the museum is housed in a low ceilinged, rather small rooms. I am sure it would benefit from grander premises.

Anyone interested in history, especially military history will enjoy this museum. It has a particularly interesting display on the first floor about the Napoleonic Wars and the role of the Rifles. Interesting diorama of the battle of Waterloo.

I have always liked this regimental museum. The recently refurbished Waterloo diorama is well worth visit on it's own.

The museum is located in the army barracks adjacent to the Winchester great hall so you are already in a historical part of Winchester. Go straight upstairs (stairlift and wheelchair upstairs if you need) to the battle of waterloo diorama which is superb. The model is beautiful as it is and then every 10 minutes it is lit up with... The newly refurbished diorama of the Battle is superb. Narrated by Kate Adie, it immerses you in the tactics and deceptions of Wellington. If you have followed the exploits of Sean Bean as Sharpe on tv you will love this museum. Start in the super cafe and allow a good few hours to absorb the Rifles history. Probably few visitors... I visited the Museum last week. It is well laid out with a wealth of information and background for both the Military History enthusiast and those young and old who wish to learn a bit more about our Military heritage. The VC's are impressive and the Battle of Waterloo diorama with commentary memorable. The diorama itself is superb and explanation... More
