We were greated warmly and shown the best way to explore. All the exhibits were in date order with first class descriptions. There were chairs to sit on if you wanted time to read all about any battle of interest. A top class military museum.

A really inspiring Museum. It is worth visiting despite the walk up the hill from down-town Winchester. The Museum is currently undergoing a refurbishment/improvement to the Battle of Waterloo diorama which when completed (in March) will be an added attraction.

Spent a couple of hours wandering around this museum, a very interesting place. It was a shame the Waterloo display was not open, but given the centenary next year I can well understand the need for updating it. Having said this there was still plenty to see and feel that if the display had been open we may have missed... More

The diorama of Waterloo is a prize exhibit at this museum, featured prominently on its website. The afternoon we went to Winchester specifically to see it we met (without looking for them) six people who had also travelled to the city to see it. The Waterloo Gallery is closed until March 2015. It's completely inexcusable not to put this prominently... More

I am sorry that you were disappointed with your visit to The Royal Green Jackets (Rifles) Museum. Our website does state that two thirds of the first floor, including the Waterloo diorama will be closed from 18 September for six months for refurbishment. This appears on the opening page, the homepage and 'Planning Your Visit' page of the museum website.... More

The Green Jackets are the new name for a number of regiments that have fought for England for centuries. This museum honors their achievements. One of the amusing bits was that these guys fought against the Americans in the Revolutionary War. Those battles were listed alongside all the rest. Funny!

Even although it is partially closed for upgrade work, the museum is still very interesting. Very humbling to see so many Victoria Crosses on display.

A very good museum that I found very informative and interesting. My wife not so overwhelmed. A bit of a climb up the high street to get to it, especially after a late lunch. Staff were very helpful. Great to see the Gurkhas being acknowledged.

My visitor from America is a war battle enthusiast and was delighted with the museum. He was disappointed by the fact that some of the displays were closed for refurbishment.

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry to hear that your friend was disappointed as some of the displays are currently closed to the public. Our North American section and the Battle of Waterloo diorama is currently undergoing refurbishment. While this area is closed conservators while work on some of the exhibits, including the diorama, and the new Waterloo... More

I enjoyed our visit to this museum, finding it full of interesting information on history of the Royal Green Jackets. There is a particularly impressive model of the Battle of Waterloo on the 1st floor and some great stories of the individuals who served with them.
