This cemetery contains amazing history, and makes a great walk while visiting Southampton and the Common. Must see if you have free time while in the area.

Either park in Hill Lane or on the Common,(off the Avenue). As other reviewers show a visit here is both interesting and a pleasure. Several generations of my family are buried here and many families who have been in Southampton for generations may have relatives here they don't know about. There are comprehensive records you can refer to....you might get... More

I often take a stroll through the cemetery. It is well kept and there is a fair range of World War 1 graves here to visit.

Whether you're a new or old resident. If you're fascinated by history you must visit the cemetary. Guided tours are available (see notice board by the old lodge). Lovely wild flowers in the summer. Really interesting graves, including a lad who was struck by lightening on the Common and graves of Titantic survivors. Suitable for dogs if kept on lead.

This is such a fascinating cemetry and it's so big it's worth visiting and reading about the friends of the old cemetry who spend time looking after it.

A grade 3 listed sculpture and large non-maintained areas allow for a good walk amongst nature but when darkness draws in certainly a spooky place to be.

This is an enchanting place to wander around. Every place you look there are beautiful, grey and ivy-clad gravestones, each one telling a story that will leave you moved. All surrounded by silence, wild flowers and yew trees. A gem of history and tranquility.

Ihave visited this place for the last 70 years.Over the years it got very overgrown so it went back to nature, but now it is carefully managed, withthe mowing and cutting back done in consideration of plants and nesting birds ie section by section.
