This is an enchanting place to wander around. Every place you look there are beautiful, grey and ivy-clad gravestones, each one telling a story that will leave you moved. All surrounded by silence, wild flowers and yew trees. A gem of history and tranquility.

Ihave visited this place for the last 70 years.Over the years it got very overgrown so it went back to nature, but now it is carefully managed, withthe mowing and cutting back done in consideration of plants and nesting birds ie section by section.

An unusual experience - It was fascinating to see all the memorials especially for those that died in both wartime and peactime sinkings of ships - It certainly make one grateful to being free of war or of unsafe voyages in peacetime

This is a haven of quiet with all sorts of interesting nooks and crannies, old tombstones, and wildlife. It's a bit ramshackle in places, but that adds to the atmosphere. It's just pleasant strolling among the remnants of others' lives, reading their memorials.

Visited the next morning after having spent the previous day travelling 600 miles across Ireland/Britain. It was a perfect place to slowly walk around, lost in thoughtful solitude and peace.

Southampton old cemetery has some of the oldest graves in Southampton. It's a charming place which is kept clean by the Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery, a voluntary group who do tours of the cemetery and can tell you about it's most famous occupants. The Hawthorns Centre nearby has a list of names who have been buried there. Very helpful... More

My fiancee and I went looking for Titanic related memorials and it proved interesting and challenging! Any with a blue marker are titanic related, though the site is bigger than it looks.

I've visited the Old Cemetery a few times over the years doing ancestral research. It's a lovely peaceful place and an interesting reflection of Southampton's history containing the graves of ordinary folk and city dignitaries as well as some rather splendid memorials. Being adjacent to Southampton Common (an area of Special Scientist Interest) has given the Cemetery ecological importance and... More

My family and I always walk around the ground of this cemetery with the dog around Christmas time. It's nice place to finish a walk after being in the Common. Very picturesque!!
