It's situated near nice park in really lovely building with own garden. We visit it at November - so the butterfly house was closed. The only interesting thing was the bees (there is a beehive with glass walls - but it's poorely lighted so you can't see much of the bees living inside). If you've seen The Natural History Museum... Well worth a visit. I have lived in the area for decades and never been before. an interesting collection of items and lots of information about the local area. A live beehive in a plastic covered hive was fascinating, what do they make of the visitors as they busy themselves making honey I wonder.

Really nice place with friendly, informative staff but definitely for younger ages and families. Free attraction is a bonus. Quite a short visit time - not a huge amount to do.

At least they still looked pretty I suppose. Can't really argue with the free entry. Rest of exhibits were basic, but would probably be enjoyed a lot more by children. Enjoyed the stuffed animals, but somehow missed the beehive. Will visit again to look at that.

We nipped in to use the toilet and stayed an hour! Had no idea it was so good. Visited with 2 childern ages 8 & 10. I was told it has been renovated. We especially loved the bee hive which had glass sides so we saw everything including the queen bee, and the butterfly house. We didnt have time to... More

Cumberland House was worth a visit, it has a good collection of stuffed animals along with a Butterfly House which was interesting although it is almost tropical to protect some of the more exotic plants and butterflies. I gave the Bee colony a miss as bees give me the creeps. I would not recommend this attraction for anyone who may... More

Twitter flies are great. Go when it's sunny. The alphabetical display downstairs is much improved. The activity room upstairs is a good idea but needs a lot more activities to justify its name. 2 broken jigsaws doesn't really cut it.

I haven't been here for forty years and I was pleasantly surprised. Firstly it is FREE. Always a bonus. The collection of stuffed animals was well laid out on the ground floor and interesting. Easy for children to access too. There is a nice little section on the geology of the area. I was disappointed with the butterflies. Only saw... More
