My 5yr old grandson wanted to visit the boating lake and we parked further up the road from the museum. As we walked past I remembered that many years ago we'd taken his dad on a visit and on the spur of the moment decided to pop in. We couldn't take his scooter in but there are lockers in a... More

Rescued from extinction by volunteers, the Natural History Museum has really been spruced up. Basically it is a home for a great collection of taxidermy and ideal for the 2 to 8 brigade with friendly knowledgeable staff. We were there at the right time for the butterflies and it was lovely just to sit and watch them. Great little place... More

The butterfly room was the best part. The rest is small but with good exhibits. So, like the Natural History Museum, but a hundredth of the size and numbers of people. So good for small people to get a taste of natural history, without them getting bored or crushed. What's upstairs - could it be opened up?

Visited the museum today with my 5 year old nephew and new born baby. Was refused entry because I needed my pram for my baby who was sleeping (plus all the other stuff you have to carry around with a baby). Apparently they have a strict no pram policy, very disappointed. They offer an unsecured buggy park but by no... More

Very impressed when i visited today with my children (aged 6 and 3). The staff were very polite and engaging. As my children are young it didn't take us long to view all of the museum, however without them i could have spent much longer reading all of the interesting information and history of Portsmouth. Unfortunately being so early in... More

I went in here a couple of years ago and it was a bit run down and neglected. So after it was refurbished a few months ago I thought it would be good to go again and see what had changed. Sadly they seem to have spent a lot of money and manged to make it less interesting than ever.... More

Popped in to the Natural History Museum whilst having a walk along the seafront. Considering this is meant to tell the natural history of Portsmouth ... I wondered around and didn't feel I learnt anything, nothing really showed the unique history of Portsmouth. The one lady on the desk didn't interact with anyone... just sad.

This is really quaint old building full of interesting artefacts and information concerning the local area. My family keep returning it to it for a look around. Its not a massive museum but we always manage to spend a good hour to 2 hours in there. There is plenty to see for little ones, including the lifesize Iguanadon and also... More

Really loved the recent Egyptian displays and artefacts. Looking forward to the Tricorn experiences that's coming in March. Worth a visit to any one with Pompey roots.

We have visited this museum on several occasions and although small, we have enjoyed it. I agree that while the refurb has made a more pleasant environment, there is less to see than before. Probably more suited to younger children, my two are a bit old for it now at 14 and 8.
