This is really quaint old building full of interesting artefacts and information concerning the local area. My family keep returning it to it for a look around. Its not a massive museum but we always manage to spend a good hour to 2 hours in there. There is plenty to see for little ones, including the lifesize Iguanadon and also... More

Really loved the recent Egyptian displays and artefacts. Looking forward to the Tricorn experiences that's coming in March. Worth a visit to any one with Pompey roots.

We have visited this museum on several occasions and although small, we have enjoyed it. I agree that while the refurb has made a more pleasant environment, there is less to see than before. Probably more suited to younger children, my two are a bit old for it now at 14 and 8.

As a natural History Museum it is a little limited in it's content, but it has an interesting selection of exhibits which are quite clearly targeted at children which I guess would it's core visitors. The museum is free with friendly staff with free parking outside. The museum has a number of interesting sections, as adults we enjoyed using the... More

I've been in to the museum many times with my older lad and took the little one today for his first visit. It has been closed for sometime for a refurb and we expected great things. Unfortunately despite a lick of paint the place has less to see? where are all the fish in the numerous aquarium tanks??? They have... More

It's a really nice place to visit with young children. The butterfly garden is only open in the summer and is really nice. It's completely free entry also.

Visited the newly refurbished museum today and it is impressive how much more the ground floor area has been opened up and lightened. The welcome from the staff was warm and informative. Thank You. In conjunction with local schools an exhibit linked with the Butterfly Conservatory and other Natural History items made a fine display. We particularly enjoyed the storybooks... More

Great place to take the children on these rainy days. My grandchildren 4 and 6 years love going there. There is large model dinosaur, and a lovely conservatory - which is filled with butterflies, there are many other stuffed birds and other animals. There are plenty of stairs and narrow corridors so unfortunately not really suitable for disabled.

We really enjoyed the museum. Well worth the visit to explore all the exhibits. Good for young children as they have some hands on items.

It's free, so I don't like to rate it too low, but it's also a bit depressing. There's some interesting info re dinosaurs, but if visiting with children, it's too indepth and does not hold their attention past the one large dinosaur model (does anyone else get an odd urge to shake hands with it whilst climbing the stairs?). There's... More
