Chavenage House is something very special and we can recommend it to anyone who wants an interesting and fun day out. Should you belong to a group it is a great way to spend the day ..the family are superb raconteurs and Joanna does a very good lunch if there are enough of you ... you eat in the ballroom...... More

This is a gem about 3 miles from downtown Tetbury in a country setting. We loved the fact that the family guided the visitors through their home. They are wonderful people. They only do tours twice a week for only 3 hours each, so don't arrive late.

As part of my 60th birthday celebrations, 12 of us paid a private visit to the house. We had a guided tour conducted by family members, namely Caroline and her father, and coffee provided by her mother. It was a most entertaining visit, with numerous amusing anecdotes about events at the house, both ancient and modern, which made my birthday... More

Although the house is only open on Thursdays and Sundays, our group were very fortunate in that it was open to us as a special courtesy on a Saturday morning as we were celebrating a friend's birthday. So we had the house to ourselves. We were welcomed by Caroline and her mother with coffee to kick off our visit. Caroline... More

Situated three miles from Tetbury on the road tom Avening. Open on Thursday and Sunday afternoon only from 2 to 5 pm, and it does take three hours as David and then Carolyn take you round on a guided tour. Carolyn was very droll and humorous in her talk. The TV crew were filming on the day we had our... More

Whilst the tour was both entertaining and amusing we felt there was very little of the house on view. It's certainly unique and worth a peak but the house was very busy with a coach tour and a military dinner which did not make for the best experience. Overall it seemed pricey but maybe Thursday is a better day to... More

this was a fantastic day, the house and gardens are full of history, but the best part was the family. They are candid and very funny, we were made to feel very welcomed. It was the best tour iv been on and I would recommend it.

A very unusual house and tour given by the head of the household, a lovely man who's affection for the house and his family come through in his many interesting and humorous tales. Bringing Elizabethan and Civil War to life as well as modern day filming adventures - the stories will stay with you long after. A very quirky experience... More

Looks like someone has listed this under the wrong name. There's also an entry for Chavenage House (which is the correct spelling). Chavenage House is not open often, so go if you get the chance. Still owned by the family, who give you the very informative tour themselves. Beautiful house with plenty of stories to entertain. Don't miss!

Not open often, so go see it if you get the chance. The owner himself gives you the tour, with plenty of tales of Kings & Cromwell
