These gardens differ from the more traditional 19th and 20th century designs, as they were mini landscapes designed almost as theatrical sets for the home owner to entertain his guests with lavish garden parties. One thing they were not were great flower gardens. At Painswick, romantic follies combine with long vistas, informal plantings, and a large kitchen garden to create a relaxing environment for todays visitor to appreciate how our forefathers lived and to understand how gardens have changed over the centuries. « less

This is a grand example of the rococo gardens which existed for no other reason but for the owner's pleasure. It is not very large but can be carefully covered in 45 minutes to an hour.

Really nice gardens spread out with some great views, only criticism is that it has a maze which was a let down, it was small and you could see through the hedges so not much fun!!!

Thank you for taking the time to write you review. We are delighted you found the gardens lovely, we are sorry the maze fell short of your standards, admittedly we have only recently had to give it its annual haircut and this does mean that the hedges can take a couple of weeks to thicken up again. it is always... Really pretty gardens and plenty of photo opportunities. Pretty little cafe that served fantastic cakes and food.

Loved this place with all it's little pathways and follies. Quite a lot of up and down trails, but worth the effort.

Many thanks for your review, so glad you enjoyed the Garden. As you rightly say our main asset does lead to a lot of up and down slopes, that asset is that the Garden is situated in a hidden Cotswold valley. For the less mobile we have lots of seats, many donated by kind benefactors, from where you can enjoy... More

The rococo gardens are small but are well cared for . The ponds are very special . there is an entrance charge which is reasonable. The cafe was nice and serviced light snacks and teas and cakes again the charge was reasonable, it also has a small gift shop. There is a large parking are which is free.

Thank you taking the time to write your review. We are delighted you enjoyed the Garden. Our centre pond is a habitat for Great Crested Newts, whilst the main one is stocked with fish, although over the years there are less gold ones and more black ones - must be natural selection with our resident heron! We decided on Rococo Gardens for the venue for our small and intimate wedding. We had the perfect day, with both the staff and venue helping make our special day turn out to be so memorable. We would recommend Rococo Gardens to any couple who is looking for potential venues. The staff at Rococo are superb and friendly. The canapes... More

The gardens are very verdant, although quite small, and the maze good fun. We had a delicious lunch in the café, the garden salad produce was so fresh and tasty as was the homemade quiche.

Thank you for your positive review of the Garden and restaurant. However we were disappointed that despite your comments saying how much you enjoyed your visit, you only rated us with three stars. Your only criticism seems to be that our 10 acre garden is small. We obviously as a team work hard to ensure our visitors enjoy all aspects... More

What a delightful spot......quite a bizarre garden, but worth a look. Kids will love the maze and ponds. Unique and interesting place.

Thank you very much for your review, we are delighted you enjoyed and appreciated the Garden. I think the term bizarre is very apt to describe the unusual Rococo style. More

The gardens were lovely but probably far more stunning when more flowers were in bloom. The maze is good fun too!

Thank you for your positive review, glad you did not get too lost in the maze! Whilst Rococo Gardens are never great flower gardens, we do have a selection of heritage roses than bloom from around mid June, is you are again in the area. More

Great that this historic garden has been preserved! We enjoyed our visit, in spite of pouring rain. We spent over an hour wandering around, got pleasantly lost in the maze and really loved the views. We then took our bedraggled selves into the café where we warmed up by a log-burning stove. Our dog was allowed in and was presented... More

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. Wet days seem to be quite common this late May, however we are delighted you enjoyed your visit despite the weather. We have started to allow well behaved dogs into the tea room this year, which has been well received by owners. We hope you can come back on a... More
