The Corinium Museum is located at the heart of Cirencester the 'Capital of the Cotswolds'. Its principal collection consists of the highly significant finds from the Roman town of Corinium. However the museum today is much more than that, taking the visitor on a journey through time and charting the development of the Cotswolds from its prehistoric landscape to the modern day. The light and modern galleries offer the visitor an exceptional interactive experience. The museum is renowned for its learning provision, with an education centre and temporary exhibition space that ensure a vibrant, changing programme of events and activities for everyone to enjoy.

While I think this museum is geared more towards children 8 and older, my husband and I enjoyed our visit. The musuem contained some interesting exhibits and gave a great overall history of the Roman rule in the area. There were some beautiful mosiac floors that were found around Cirencester that are now housed in the museum. In the museum's... More

The very cheap entry fee would make you believe it to be a poorly managed and stocked museum. However much to my delight it is one of the best Roman museums I have visited. It was extremely well laid out, moving through times progressively. There was excellent use of media and collected items. There was similarly adequate use of 'toys'... More

I must declare an interest. My grandfather designed the building in which this museum is situated. But, if you want to know about the place, the 'ancient' Brits, the Romans, the development of a small town throughout the centuries, this is a place to go. It's not the British Museum, but is charmingly parochial. As it should be. And even... More

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. How lovely to have a family connection to a building which thousands of people enjoy visiting each year. Today the museum is proud to provide light and modern galleries, which chart the development of the Cotswolds from its prehistoric landscape to the modern day. We also have a fantastic shop... More

This museum gives a comprehensive overview of the Roman influence and local ruins in Cirencester. I especially loved the mosaics.

Visited the museum on the 11th of July with my family and found it to be a lovely, interesting, inclusive museum. Lots of interactive displays which kept my nephews (6&9 years old) interested, detailed examples of life in Cirencester over thousands of years which appealed to the adults and a lovely touch of books and baby toys dotted around the... Wow! What a find. Fabulous museum with bags and bags of history. Cirencester is a former Roman town, when it was the western outpost of their empire. Strongly recommend a visit here to get a good feel for the area.

Romano-Britain and Anglo Saxon periods are the main focus. Some activities for children, but probably more appropriate for adults. Definitely worth a visit and really like that your entry ticket allows all day access, so you can leave and come back.
