Last visited over twenty years ago the Ypres stayed in our memory for being very good. In the area again we found our way back there today intending to have a sandwich but seeing a plate of fish and chips being served changed our minds. A large serving of beautifully cooked cod in crisp batter - a piece cut from... More

Having visited on occasion and enjoyed the beer decided to come and have Sunday lunch. I am always a bit wary of pub sunday roasts as they rarely live up to expectation but I can recommend this. I think in the summer the garden overlooking the coast here would be a fantastic place to sit and enjoy a meal. Well... More

What a disappointment. Visited this pub many times and had excellent service and food. There are new owners now I believe. Oysters for starters were not cleaned properly, gritty and still attached to shell. No salsas to accompany the shellfish . Served with a mis- shapen hacked piece of lemon. Steak served on a greasy cold rosti with a watercress... More

we had a quick bite here and the baguette was excellent with good salad on the side. Not keen on dogs being allowed inside when you are eating

This pub is great, lots of good live music. A very creditable crab sandwich as well, made with white meat, the food snobs tell me that brown meat has all the flavour, but I don't like it and it make the sandwich gritty

We stayed in Rye during the filming by the BBC of a period drama, so the evening we wanted to eat (again) at the Ypres the pub was closed as they were hosting the wrap party for the Beeb. Glad that our licence money is being well spent-ha ha! Anyway, that's me being facetious-the Ypres Castle has a small menu... More

We stayed in Rye for 3 nights and the meal here was probably the best of the trip. We found this by accident when exploring the town and decided to come back that evening. So glad we did, excellent fish and local lamb followed by fab desserts. Excellent service too. Don't miss it !

OK so it way a beautiful sunny day but this place has class. The beer garden has great views and could only be improved with something to keep kids happy. However, maybe that is part of the appeal. A great place for grown ups, a really good choice of Real Ales. Although I didn't eat the food looked delicious and... More

It was not our first visit to this pub, which recently had been newly decorated. The menu changed slightly and does not offer pies or so, but more modern cuisine. All dishes we had were of good size and great taste. There was no need for a starter or dessert as the mains were large enough.
