We only did the East Cliff Railway. The technology itself is impressive and the views from the cars are tremendous but the best view is reserved for when you get to the top and look out over the town and as far as Beachy Head.

Did both. They are reasonably priced and you have great views from the top. Also a charming cafe on West hill.

Did both lifts at 2.50 each. West cliff has smugglers cove and the castle. East cliff has the country park. Both are very steep so it avoids a taxing walk. The lifts started over 100 years ago and were refurbed 25 years ago so still very old fashioned. They run every 2mins at peak so very worthwhile.

Love these little railways! Great views from the East and West Hills - the best way to see Hastings and get some perspective! If you venture up the East Hill you will be rewarded with the best spot for an ice cream van - in the world!

These provide a faster and much less arduous way to the top of the cliffs than walking the several hundred steps. You need to get to the clifftop to visit the excellent Smugglers Caves and also for fabulous views across the town of Hastings and out to the Channel. These trains date from Victorian times and the rides are very... More

We used the West Cliff Railway to get to the Castle and Smugglers Adventure because I didn't want to walk. Loved it, not sure if my fear of heights could have managed the steeper East Cliff one but going through the tunnel was ok. £2.50 for a return ticket and smiling staff each end.

I think we went on the west carriage which goes through the tunnel, this was only a minute or so through the tunnel and nothing to see whilst your in it apart form the tunnel itself... Therefore if you want views the east carriage is worth the money. However the pros of the west carriage are it is an easier... More

This far exceeded my expectations. Situated on Rock A Dore Road. Best to take the No. 20 or 20A bus from the train station. There's a little bit of a walk once you get off the bus in Pelham Place. Constructed in 1903, it is the steepest in Britain. Lovely scenic views from the top over the South Coast. Fare... More
