I've never been on one of these so when I saw it on my visit to Hastings in late-May I just had to ride. I rode the funicular railway in the east of Hastings. It is only £2.50 for adults for a return ticket (children, students and other concessions are only £1.50). I was amazed at how steep it was.... More

Visited the east cliff railway, clearly very old and still functioning, views from the top added to a weekend visit to Hastings not spectacular but there is a walk around the top which we did not do but weather permitting look interesting

A ride on this is an absolute treat and a real trip into the past. The views from the top really are quite stunning and give a real feel for the layout of the old town below, Big bonus is the west hill café which is probably the cheapest eat in town.

We love a funicular and these were great. The East Hill is particularly steep and affords spectacular views. The West Hill goes up through a tunnel to the castle (don't bother) where there's a café and more great views. They are what they are and if you like a funicular they're not to be missed

The east cliff funicular railway climbs the dramatic cliffs to the east of Hastings. The views have to be seen to be believed and it is spectacularly exhilarating - very steep climb!

Took an unplanned trip on the cliff railway whilst visiting Hastings for the day. The price was good for a family of 5 and the views at the top were great esp as it was a clear day. Also good access for a pram too! We all enjoyed it.

A really nice ride up the cliff side. Great price for a family ticket and excellent views from the top. Would recommend.

We've been on other verinicular railways (e.g. Bridgnorth) but the West Cliff Railway has a tunnel through the cliff and gets you up to the castle and the large grassy park up the top of Hastings, where you can see for miles and miles. Well worth the trip and at £2.50 pp return, not expensive, either. Recommended!

East hill cliff railway - very cheap to ride on and good fun too, enjoyed the old fashioned carriages. Staff were friendly even on the busy Easter weekend. I don't like heights much at all but found this experience not so scary (worst bit was once at the top and moving away into the fields). At the top the view is... More

Nice ride up to the top of the hill for fantastic views over the old Hastings Town and out to sea / fishing area
