I enjoyed the tour more than I expected. Hardly smelly at all! Book well in advance as very popular and limited numbers for safety reasons. The guides were very informative making it very enjoyable and reacted to the different age range. Our bags/coats were left securely while using the walkways/ladders. Hard hats with miners lamp and latex gloves were worn... More

A friend bought us tickets for the Brighton sewer tour as a birthday gift for another friend (original birthday treat!). There were 4 of us who joined another 20 for the tour: 9.30 & 11am on Saturday or a Wednesday evening. The guides are Southern Water workers who clearly do it for the joy of walking members of the public... More

This is a very interesting tour and the guides are sociable and informative. Safety is paramount and you are given a hard hat with attached head torch. The smell is not bad at all but I had taken a small roll on perfume oil which I applied under my nose when we began. I think that the best bit is... More

This was great but very smelly and also very informative they provide hard hats and latex gloves which everyone has to wear at all times. The chaps that show you around were great and had a good sense of humour. Before you go in to the sewer their is a talk and a showing of a DVD which takes about... More

My friend and I enjoy visiting civil engineering attractions. This is my second visit to this attraction, and I've been looking forward to it immensely. Last time, I got a bit confused about the layout and exactly what everything I saw was for, and I was too shy to ask for them to try and explain it to me again.... More

This trip is well worth the price. It starts with a short video and safety talk before you enter the sewer itself. The smell was not as offensive as expected and the Victorian engineering is extremely impressive. The guides were entertaining and really know their stuff as they work down there all the time. I had been told this was... More

I looked forward to this tour and wasn't disappointed! This tour is the real deal- you are touring the working sewer and your guides are employees of Southern Water. At the beginning of the tour you are given a hard hat with a light and gloves and are shown a video. The guides are very serious about safety and give... More

After a full safety briefing and the distribution of hard hats, helmet lights and gloves your excellent guides - who work underground - take you round these working sewers. You get used to a slight odour quite quickly and this trip has not been cosmetisised ( I know there is no such word, but you'll know what I mean ).... More

What amazing foresight the Victorians had when they built the Brighton sewers. Not only did they build them well enough to last at least 500 more years but also with enough capacity to cope with our needs today (much more than 100 years ago!) The tour was well organised and very interesting if a bit stinky in places!

What an amazing experience - although probably one I would not repeat! Book well in advance as each tour is restricted to 25 people and only operates during the summer a few evenings a week. The guides - there were four on my tour - are all employed in a full time capacity by Southern Water, excellent at their presentations... More
