Fantastic to have this Iconic railway on our doorstep, wish they would extend it as it would help with Brighton's congestion.

This is the oldest electric train in the world that is still functioning. My partner and myself took a walk along the beach to Brighton Marina which was about a mile and a half. After a spot of lunch we didn't quite fancy the walk back so we opted to take the volks train. It is a nice and well-priced... More

I used to go on this alot of times back in the days and its still running which is good to see. The price is pretty affordable and the ride is nice. I like the fact that people wave to you as the train goes past.

it was so lovely to sit on an old fashioned little train and go along the whole of the seafront from the marina to the pier

Parked for free at Asda and paid for the Volkks train in, as would rather pay towards upkeep of historic railway rather than give money to the grabbing council and their extortionate parking fees! Lovely ride and return journey 2 hours later, just long enough for a stroll up the prom or round the Lanes, bit of shopping in Asda,... More

The Volks Railway has much to recommend it. It hugs the beach and has brilliant old, open sided carriages. The only downsides are that the tickets seem on the expensive side and the line doesn't make it all the way to the marina

The Volks Railway is the worlds oldest electric railway, and works on the principle that the local trains in Southern England work on - an extra rail to provide electricity, rather than the more common overhead wires. The open-sided cars still have the original wooden seats, and clatter along the beach from Palace Pier to Black Rock (Marina). If you... More

Volk’s Electric Railway sounds like only a slight thing when described verbally. Just a rather shabby, open-sided, single-car unit running for just over a mile along the seafront. But, have a look at the date over the entrance. 1883! In those days, an electric railway wasn’t just an amusing novelty but, to quote a sadly overused phrase, cutting edge technology.... More

Closed for repairs. The railway that never stops had. The rail work being carried out was not explained by poster or otherwise. No idea how long the work would take.

Take a ride on the little train along the seafront, we walked back along the beach, our fault but we went past the rude bit of the beach without thinking, a few naked bodies even in the cold weather, the kids found it very funny, I said they was poor people and couldn't afford clothing. Walked along to the pier... More
