The doughnut has been to the west of the Palace Pier (I refuse to call it the Brighton Pier) for 20 odd years now - hard to believe really. It is just a bit of fun, but also has interest with the stamped in (as it were) shapes of the different continents. Good to challenge the small ones to name... More

As a regular visitor to Brighton, it is difficult to find things to do with my nephew that do not break the bank. This walk along the prom is fun, even on a wet and windy day. The doughnut is a fun distraction, we love to muck around, pulling faces to each other through the sculpture. No expense and a... More

I had often seen this sculpture before, usually from a distance but had never really given it much of a thought until my most recent Brighton visit. Although the groyne on which it stands (at the beach near where East Street joins the seafront at Kings Road) is nicknamed 'Doughnut Groyne' the shape of this hollow bronze sculpture weighing 2.2... When we visit Brighton Beach I love to take photos of the Doughnut from different angles, during different times of the day. It's an interesting piece of art when you find out its thistory. There's always people milling around it, and when the sea is rough - watch out for those unexpected waves.

Why a doughnut and not a bagel, the lid of a teapot ot the backlight on a rifle? It's simple harmless inoffensive and mildly curious.

Great place in summer to look out to the sea or rest. Beware sometimes it gets overcrowded with students or other groups.

The doughnut is exactly as you see it in pictures. I wouldn't suggest going out of your way to see it but if you want a nice view of the pier and the beach then head here.

As far as modern art instalments for, I have seen much better. I have also seen much worse. As long as it kept a local artist in paint brushes then it no doubt fulfilled its purpose.
