A great place to find a cafe and watch the eclectic and diverse people of Brighton pass before you. Great coffee culture and some really unusual shops, all worth your attention.

We have always liked the Lanes from years ago when our daughter was at Brighton University. However, this time, we found we now preferred the North Laine area, with it's variety of unusual shops and bazaars, in an area with lots of character and charm. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic to walk around and shop. So many little local stores and cafes it's difficult to take it all in. Quite a few tourist traps and some overpriced generically imported stuff, but on the whole a great experience. This north laine is really the (commercial) bohemian/artisan heart of the city.

On our previous visit to Brighton my wife and I spent some time in The Lanes, which we loved. This time we thought we would explore North Laine instead. We started with a visit to the Toy and Model Museum near the station and then worked our way slowly back to near the Pavilion. There is a tantalising selection of... More

Raised in the "North Laine" of Brighton through the time it was known as "The slums under Brighton Station"! Scheduled for Slum Clearance right through to 1971 when the Unbelievable Wilson Street Plan was finally ditched (that would have seen everything demolished through to Bond Street). The area has changed character through the years and is now the playground for... More

This area shows Brighton for what it is famous for - a Bohemian eclectic mix of shops, Restuarant and of course people! Great atmosphere and a lovely place to meander through on a lazy day in this fun city with friends or alone. Enjoy or just watch the world and his wife go by in this quaint part of the... More

In the brighton museum there was a display about the tearing down of the slums, well they missed this area ! I felt unsafe here and uncomfortable.

You can find everything you didn't know you need here, from a fantastic 19th century hardware store to the most modern of fashion outlets, individually owned and operated. Have a suit made to measure, buy some vegetarian shoes, eat wonderful food in the famous 'Chilli Pickle' restaurant. Drink in some of the finest pubs in Brighton
