To drive through Kemptown would hardly warrant a snatched view out of the side window. But park up - if you can - and take a leisurely stroll around all the sideroads and you will find many interesting mews, small and interesting shops. Perhaps call in at Marmalade for a super lunch or snack. In our view, well worth a... More

St James street the entrance to Kemptown is nothing short of Dirty and to a degree a little seedy/tacky (great if you love that sort of thing) venture a little further though and you will be treated to amazing bars restaurants shops and buildings it really is a self contained village within a city a must see for architecture lovers... Quirky and Queer. Colourful and full of people, especially during Pride. Don't go there if you're not after unconventional fun, hipstery places and people from all nationalities, religions, sexualites, cultures and ideals!

Great area, really just a street that runs between Brighton and the Marina a couple of streets back from the sea front. It's perfect for getting away from the Brighton touristy area and crowds. Loads of pubs on the street and little shops selling bric a brad.

Basically St James Street, Kemp Town runs parallel to the promenade and beach and is renowned for its gay culture. Lively, with shops, supermarkets, bars, cafes, restaurants, it is almost always bustling with activity, particularly at the weekend.

Whenever coming to Brighton we always stay in KempTown, as my girlfriend's family have a house next to Sussex Square Gardens. It's a fantastic area, and has that bohemian buzzing feel when out and about. Plenty of great cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants, antique shops, and little local shops for convenience. A couple of my favourite places are The Real Patisserie... More

Stayed here for a long weekend at the end of Aug. Perfect little base to see the sights of Brighton. The beach is literally a 5 minutes walk away. Plenty of supermarkets to buy food if you are self catering like we were. Head for the Marina as well as The Pier end as it is very stylish and interesting... More
