Basically St James Street, Kemp Town runs parallel to the promenade and beach and is renowned for its gay culture. Lively, with shops, supermarkets, bars, cafes, restaurants, it is almost always bustling with activity, particularly at the weekend.

Whenever coming to Brighton we always stay in KempTown, as my girlfriend's family have a house next to Sussex Square Gardens. It's a fantastic area, and has that bohemian buzzing feel when out and about. Plenty of great cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants, antique shops, and little local shops for convenience. A couple of my favourite places are The Real Patisserie... More

Stayed here for a long weekend at the end of Aug. Perfect little base to see the sights of Brighton. The beach is literally a 5 minutes walk away. Plenty of supermarkets to buy food if you are self catering like we were. Head for the Marina as well as The Pier end as it is very stylish and interesting... More

This is such a colourful, Bohemian and exciting part of Brighton! We stayed in a hotel nearby and we're glad we did as there was so much atmosphere and some lovely shops and cafes too.

Great place to stroll up and down. Plenty of eating places of all types so if your a veggie etc this is the place for you. Meat eaters also catered for. Ice cream for the kids and big kids. Fresh juices and home made dishes. Shopping is a bit of this and that but there are some really good music... More

Our accomodation was in Kemp Town and it was nice place to be. Loads of gay bar and pubs, close to Sainsbury's, Morrison and Tesco which can help you save some money. The best thing about it - it's close to town center and beach, pier as well, but it's nice and quiet. People seems to be friendly and we... More

Kemp Town is just a short walk from centre of Brighton, but is so worth it. Lovely coffee shops and 1930's tea room. Very good antique shops and a quiet village atmosphere.
