Though the the show was almost booked out, we were given excellent seats, from which we had a good view of the interesting show. The group performing was very innovative, using acrobatic elements combined with techniques from improv theatre for a play set in the latter 19th century! Hence you get the atmosphere of a dignified old theatre with its... More

Dates back to 1807 but largely redeveloped in 1854. Current seating capacity of 952 but auditorium cosy and intimate so it feels smaller. Would not be out of place in London's West End. Hosts some theatre productions of top quality either on the way to, or touring after West End runs. Also hosts a yearly pantomime, other touring shows including... More

We recently visited this theatre to watch the Proclaimers. Very very nice theatre with very friendly staff. Visit the theatre bar next door. Very nice staff and quite interesting looking at all the old celebrity pictures on the walls. Also fairly cheap drinks!

For one thing, it is much older than the typical West End auditoriums - it opened in 1807 - and the decor is in an earlier style. It's less ornate and more pared back and none the worse for that. The public spaces (stalls bar, for... More

Went to see a great mowtown show at a great venue. Place is old of course but full of character. Needs some decent ale installed.

While in Brighton for 3 days for a religious convention, I had some free time and wandered around the area. I happened to eat something opposite this theatre & remembered going there s few years ago with my daughter. Noticing that N Agatha Christie play was on, I enquires about tickets for the last show the following day. I bought... More

This is the second time I have visited this charming theatre last time was around 19 years ago to watch The Tempest which I remember was excellent and still don't think I have seen a more imaginative performance of Ariel. This time we came as a family to watch Agatha Christies 'And Then There Were None'. An excellent production of... More
