We got in as HHA members, so didn't pay the £6 entry, but would've been more than happy to have, it's great value! Lots of interesting things to see in the Castle and lovely walks around the grounds and lake. Nice cafe and plenty of picnic tables around. Thanks for a lovely day out!

On arriving we thought the £11pp admission charge a little on the steep side. As we left we thought quite the complete opposite as the whole experience was unexpectedly quite superb! The tour of the 'lodge' was steeped in the history of Sir Walter Raleigh and the room staff most helpful - there to answer any questions without being 'pushy'.... More

Ok so I came here too see a car show as I love cats and am a car spotter. After the event I went in the castle and I didn't think it was that big. If you go to the old castle you can see the back of the new castle.

Arrived at 2-30 and paid for house and garden entrance. We were not made aware that last entrance to the house was 4-30 - the only signs hat mentioned it in the grounds was in tiny font on the bottom of the map on the other side of the car park that we arrived in. I suspect they actually closed... More

Very nice house and grounds with interesting history. A well spoken elderly lady (forget her name sorry!) was very knowledgeable and child friendly, showing the children things to look for. The quiz to do while you go round is also very good for older children. More suited to a few hour visit as opposed to a whole day, although we... More

We are glad that you had a good day out and you enjoyed the Children's quiz. If you visit again - why not try our Free Garden Trail which is along similar lines to the children's quiz and can be picked up from inside the tearooms. More

Few places outside of major capital cities can boast such rich historical context in such astoundingly beautiful surroundings. As back stories go, a house built by Sir Walter Raleigh on an estate gained by him with the help of Elizabeth I and gardens done by Capability Brown is a fairly good opener. But add to that the fact that just... More

We have a season ticket living locally. I thoroughly recommend any visitor to Sherborne taking time out to leave the wonderful little town at the railway station; walk across the left hand field ( 5 mins) to the Castle and grounds, dominated by the magnificent lake. The interior of the castle is not to be missed, with fine paintings and furniture.... More

The most interesting thing about this castle is that it was originally built by Walter Raleigh. However, he didn't enjoy it for long as he was beheaded and the castle passed to the Digby family. The rooms were very pleasant, smaller and more intimate than many stately homes. Most had beautiful views over the lovely lake and gardens. There were... More

Lovely visit to this castle which, sadly, is not always open. Very interesting portraits, furniture and Tudor kitchens and beautiful gardens. The wisteria smelt beautiful and the water features were lovely. We had a cream tea. Toilet facilities were good, apart from the fact that disabled men had to access the disabled toilet inside the ladies' toilet, which seemed strange.
