There are public footpaths all over the estate and these have recently been fenced either side to stop wandering off. Good job. However, what is the point of leaving huge gaps either sides of the gates and under the gates that all animals and humans can get through? Absolutely pointless! Yet another example of the castle estate lording it up... More

I'd been looking forward to visiting for over six months but was, sadly, a little disappointed. Admittedly there were two quite spectacular rooms and there was a 50 acre lake, but I don't think these warranted the entry fee. Unhappy that all photography was forbidden. Didn't rate the café for quality and value. Staff didn't appear very friendly.

Beautiful undulating grounds with magnificent views. Didn't go in the house as we came to walk the dog. Could have spent all day there if we'd brought a picnic. Very helpful man on the gate tells you about all the different walks you can go on and how long they take. A low-profile place but beats most National Trust places... More

Well worth a visit . Not crowded , plenty of interesting history. Good walk around the lake. The thatched hut was a great place to have our picnic.

Approaching Sherborne Castle is impressive and you are welcomed at the gate where you need to buy your tickets. You then drive on to the Estate through beautifully landscaped gardens and up to the ample parking space. The house would never have received planning permission these days and can only be described as ugly from the outside but this does... More

Sherborne Castle is very well maintained with lots of attention to detail. We went with our young family and the grandparents. The staff were friendly and informative. A walk around the lake is a must, lovely views and a peak at the old castle. The cake in the cafe was delicious!

As other reviewers have said this is stately home rather than a true castle. The house is nice enough, but little has been made of the full history, rather focus is on the Digby family when I suspect we, and others, would be more interested in the Raleigh period and the significant use of the house in both WWI and...
