Approaching Sherborne Castle is impressive and you are welcomed at the gate where you need to buy your tickets. You then drive on to the Estate through beautifully landscaped gardens and up to the ample parking space. The house would never have received planning permission these days and can only be described as ugly from the outside but this does... More

Sherborne Castle is very well maintained with lots of attention to detail. We went with our young family and the grandparents. The staff were friendly and informative. A walk around the lake is a must, lovely views and a peak at the old castle. The cake in the cafe was delicious!

As other reviewers have said this is stately home rather than a true castle. The house is nice enough, but little has been made of the full history, rather focus is on the Digby family when I suspect we, and others, would be more interested in the Raleigh period and the significant use of the house in both WWI and... We went in mid aug 14. house and grounds interesting but were its a let down is the staff. they all sat in the rooms with faces as long as wet weekends i presume to stop you touching anything or taking photos as this is not allowed. I got my mobile out to check the time and one of the... More

This is a great place to visit for the day. The house and gardens most interesting. Unfortunately it could be more environmentally friendly. We walked to the castle and where not respected for that. The House heating is ancient. Despite the pictures showing the effects of global warming. No recycling, No footpaths, No bicycles. Probably don't need to put up... More

The man was so rude & it was so unnecessary. Aside from that we had a great day. The history of the castle is interesting & the walk around the lake was beautiful

Visited Sherborne Castle today and was really impressed, the family have really kept it as it was. The New Castle and grounds are a treat to see. The only fly in the ointment is that after 2.30pm you cant even get a sandwich in the Café. I am sure with a little bit of forward planning in this day of... More

This is a pricey site to visit so worth waiting for a good day so you can make the most of wandering the grounds. Having sad that the house is really very interesting although the best is the older sections built by Sir Walter Raleigh.

I was visiting Dorset and Sherborne Castle (the new one) was a place on the list for us to visit. Part of the HHA (which of course is free for those who are members of) it only costs £6 for an adult entry if you aren't part of the Historic Houses Association (HHA). First and foremost, I wouldn't call it... More
