We were visiting the area for a week so we decided to visit Sherborne Castle. The car parking is quite extensive so parking is not a major problem. Unfortunately this castle also has the same rule as many other properties "NO PHOTOGRAPHS" which is quite annoying. The castle is very nice though, very splendid indeed. The day we visited the... Staying in the area for a week we had been thwarted on a first visit to the castle by not realising it didn't open on any Friday, our fault for not reading the website thoroughly. We decided to stop en route back home however as we were greeted by a glorious sunny Autumn Saturday. Lovely place, wonderful history, beautiful grounds... More

Great for walks and views. Massive landscapes and great big lake at the estate as well. Great for quiet walks or for families.

Walter Raleigh built a wonderful symmetrical house on the foundations of the hunting lodge when he realised he could'nt afford to renovate the old castle. Sir Digby then bought it after Raleigh was removed for backing the wrong King, and added four new wings, all with the same turret endings.

We had no idea this existed, very pleased we found it. Sherborne Castle is really a house, originally built by Sir Walter Raleigh, extended over the years, and now still privately owned by the Digby family, and is part of the Historic Houses Association. A lot of this house is open to the public and the rooms and history are... More

We didn't go into the castle as we didn't have time, but the grounds are absolutely stunning. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

The castle is steeped in history and is well worth a visit. The guides have a wealth of knowledge which was of great interest. As well as the castle itself there are relaxing walks in the grounds where there is a large lake.

We were really quite surprised that we had never heard of this place, the lodge (as it was originally called) was built by Sir Walter Raleigh in the grounds of the old castle. The original sections have been added to over the years so there is plenty to see. We took our disabled father and the staff were wonderful offering... More
