We really enjoyed our day at Sherborne Castle. Inside the castle, you get to see quite a lot of rooms which is always nice. There is information to read in each room too so you can find out more about the house. The grounds around the house are fantastic, and you could probably walk for hours. There are plenty of... More

My first thought about this attraction that it is no longer a castle but a stately home. I was expecting to see a castle, even though I had heard that the old castle was no more than ruins. As a stately home it was an impressive house which is steeped in history. I visited on a group tour & we... More

This castle is more to do with the Digby family who have lived here since 1617 than Sir Walter Raleigh who had it built in 1594.The entrance to the castle is not that attractive, inside there are a number of rooms to visit, the main features in some of them being the fire places other wise mostly pictures and history of the... We had some time to kill so my son and I visited this castle. As it is advertised as Sir Walter Raleigh's home we expected to find out more about him and his life there. However this home is still owned by the Digbys and it is clearly their family history which is reflected in every nook and cranny of... More

Well worth a visit. The castle itself is an interesting visit but the history and background with Raleigh add a dimension. Read the fact sheets and it's a very interesting visit.

Interesting place to visit, with plenty of history. Lots of information on hand and all stewards were very polite. The walks around the grounds are very nice. The only slight disappointment was the tea shop as the cake and scone my wife and I shared were a little dry. Definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the area.

Sherborne castle is great for a lazy day out. We enjoyed wandering the gardens and visiting the castle. The history o the place is most interesting and they's done a great job of explaining everything with story cards in every room. There are also guides in each room who can tell you more about the room and items in it.... More

I didn't know about this castle or it's connection with Sir Walter Raleigh. We were staying in the area so only found this by accident but am pleased we did. When touring the castle make sure to pick up the laminates with the stories, there are 2 laminates and the other details all the contents and points of interest for... More

To start with we were given good information at the pay desk. We only wanted to do the gardens and were advised that there is a 45 minute walk around the lake and a shorter one of 30 mins. We were also advised when it would probably rain. We opted for the very pleasant 45 minute walk with lots of... More
