Sherborne New house, (and Old Castle). This is a very good day out, if you plan it correctly. firstly, check out their website to ensure, that BOTH the House and the Castle are open on the day you are planning to come, and that there is access to the house all day. The house is particularly interesting, with an amazing... More

This is an interesting castle, home of Sir Walter Raleigh and brings history alive. All the guides in each room are very helpful and informative. A very intimate building se t in beautiful grounds where you are allowed to walk your dogs. A good cafe is on site and the Orangery is a popular venue for weddings and functions.

A very interesting house having historic connections with Walter Raleigh. The guides were informative and much of the house was open to visit. The walk around the lake was also well worth doing. As was a trip into the town of Sherborne.

Having visited the old castle we thought we would walk around to this place but disappointed to note the house was not open to the public until 2.00 pm. This would have meant hanging about for hours so abandoned this visit. Maybe visit next year.

You could spend hours wandering from room to room looking at all the paintings and furniture. Make sure you ask the guides any questions they can tell you more than the book. The family history is interesting and the collection of artefacts fascinating. If sunny spend some time in the gardens around the lake. Discount on the entrance fee for... More

A walk around the gardens is very pleasant and scenic. The view of the castle from across the lake is stunning. The house interior is excellent and shows exactly how life was lived many years ago. Well worth the extra payment to go into the house. If you are a historic house fan, then don't miss this house/castle.

Trying to visit the castle on a Saturday was not a good idea as it stays closed until 2pm to cater for weddings. However it was a lovely day so a walk around the gardens and lake made the visit worthwhile. The house will have to wait for another time.

We turned up too early to go round the house (which didn't open until 2pm on the day of our visit) but we enjoyed our walk our the beautiful lake and gardens.

I'd been looking forward to visiting for over six months but was, sadly, a little disappointed. Admittedly there were two quite spectacular rooms and there was a 50 acre lake, but I don't think these warranted the entry fee. Unhappy that all photography was forbidden. Didn't rate the café for quality and value. Staff didn't appear very friendly.
