What looks like a nice but fairly average large church on the outside becomes an architectural gem on the inside. The detail on the ceilings is stunning particularly in the choir area. Unusually the stone work is also adorned by beautiful artwork. And don't miss the alms house by the entrance.

I lived here and felt in love with this little town, the abbey for me is the main attraction, huge and beautifull.

Sherborne Abbey is not your average parish church, although it serves the medieval town of Sherborne as just that. Situated in the middle of the energetic, old-world village, its easy access and popularity makes one forget just how majestic and remarkable it is. You are free to wander about the abbey undisturbed and encouraged to sit alone with your own... More

Whist visiting the market town of Sherborne we decided to visit the old abbey which is very much worth making time to do so, the abbey ceiling is fantastic and is dated to around the 1500 century although the abbey it self has its origins from the early 1100 century. There is a lot of history associated with the Devonshire... More

Sherborne Abbey is just on our doorstep and we'd never been in until this summer. Since that first visit, we've been back three times. My daughter who is seven, enjoys doing the activities they have - there are little booklets to be completed and then a sticker goes on your 'passport' for that activity. You can claim a certificate after... More

An amazing ceiling and painted stonework. Friendly welcome and really well cared for and 'loved' church. Wonderful buildings around the abbey in rich sandstone. Lots of individual shops nearby too!

Keeping things short, beautifully inspiring architecture. How do they make buildings like this?! Amazing. Lovely piece of British heritage. Friendly atmosphere which is unusual for a church. Allowed in more places than most churches allow, although still wasn't allowed upstairs and in the bellfry. My girlfriend and I take our Slrs everywhere and there was no restriction on taking photos... More

Set in a beautiful location slightly away from the main shopping street the Abbey stands out with the reddish stone used in it's construction. Entry is free but a donation to the upkeep of this lovely building ought to be offered and if appropriate Gift Aided. The columns and ceiling are stunning as is the stained glass and decoration particularly... More
