Lovely grounds, beautiful abbey. We're very fortunate to have our kids school concert there and the acoustics are wonderful. Highly recommend a visit.

If you go to one Abbey in Dorset, make it this one. It is superb ! Do not miss the Victorian Misericords, these are some what bazaar carvings under the seats in the choir, they include, a man pulling his mouth open, the last judgement,a chained monkey,a man whipping a boy ( yes I know!!) an archer and a women... Though not now classed as a Cathedral, as it once was, Sherborne Abbey is well worth a visit. Not as well known, as places like Salisbury or Canterbury, it retains a quiet dignity, and personal feel, that these more famous buildings seem somehow to have lost. On a practical note, the Town of Sherborne has it's own special charm, with... More

This is a beautiful abbey with lots of history. My family and I stayed in the area and enjoyed seeing this site. It is quite large and striking from the exterior. The interior of the abbey is very nice as well. I recommend seeing this abbey if you are in the Sherborne area.

The Abbey is well worth a detour. In particular, the fan vaulting and the ceiling paintings are particularly attractive.

Sherborne Abbey housed a display of breathtakingly beautiful fan-vaulting, and thought.provoking stained glass windows. It is truly awe-inspiring for all spectators. Well worth a visit.

Having been to Sherborne Castle earlier we ventured into the beautiful old town of Sherborne and managed to get into the Abbey before a wedding took place. The beauty of this church is amazing as others have mentioned and the vaulting is a 'must see'. So glad we took the time to visit this church.

If you are in Sherborne and churches are your bag - this is one to see. The reddened stone, caused by a fire in the 1700's has created a wonderful effect and as I said the vaulting is something to see. The stainded glass is also magnificent.

This is a truly magnificent building with fan vaulting that has to be seen to be believed. I said to one of the guides this reminds me of King's College Cambridge and she replied yes but this is bigger! It was stunning. It is so well preserved and is a real place of spiritual presence in a charming English town.... More
