After a welcome leaflet from a volunteer guide we managed to learn that the fan-vaulted roof is the earliest in England and possibly the finest, very close to those of Renaissance Italian cathedrals. Its establishment as a Diocese may date back to AD 705 whilst the Great West window was dedicated by the HM The Queen in 1998 - quite... More

We arrived with our 2 young boys and received a lovely welcome from a lady arranging flowers. We were able to walk around and soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful building, the architecture is stunning. A little sanctuary from the business of the high street outside.

What an interesting place - both from its history and the intricate lacing on the high vaulted roof. Take time to look at the tomb stones. The signage is good and informative. I particularly liked the old military flags, some so well used as to be translucent.

The minute we entered this church, we were aware that it was special - beautifully presented, and clearly much loved as the parish church. The vaulting is amazing and the decoration in the choir area is second to none. IOt isa perfect mixture of old and new - including some medieval glass and some dating to 1998.

The abbey is superb architecturally. The free guided tour that we joined part way through was given by a very knowledgeable and opinionated gentleman, who made the visit very entertaining.

The Abbey is a lovely building and the fan vaulting truly amazing. Our visit was much enhanced by the knowledgable "greeter" whose name I did not get but who was most helpful in explaining details of the history and also by chance attended the same school in Bath as myself, partly at the same time. This is the home of... More

What a stunning Abbey. It took my breath away. The stain glass windows are stunning and the fan vaulting is extraordinarily beautiful. Really worth a visit.

The abbey was a bit like the Tardis in that it looked much bigger inside than out. Of particular note is the vaulted ceiling and impressive organ loft. Volunteer staff helpful and friendly. I suggest £5 donation but this wasn't 'pushed' by staff.

There's a lot to see inside and its history makes it a must see. It's got more about it than many bigger places.

Whats to say yet another example of a fine medieval Abbey but in a beautifull warm stone. Even some 14th Cent Glass Cromwells mob, both of them, missed.
