Entry to the Galleries is free. Due to deep water no children under 14 years of age. No dogs. Described as one of the most beautiful and unique sculpture parks in the United Kingdom, Sculpture by the Lakes marries the soft beauty of nature's wild river landscape with the more formal presentation of monumental outdoor sculpture. It is that combination of art and landscape that inspires Sculpture by the Lakes. Whether it is work on a monumental scale that relates to its environment, or smaller works, the sculptures of Simon Gudgeon are perfectly placed in the delicately nurtured natural landscape to visually enhance their surroundings. The effect is a balance, a harmony of form and context where the experience is central. Without walls, without interpretation, each person can engage with the art and the ever-changing environment. « less

This is a wonderful place but I do so hope that the owners consider allowing children under 14 to enjoy and be inspired by it. The ban excludes many families who would really appreciate the natural beauty as an antidote to all the 'plastic noisy' stuff usually considered good for kids. Make it clear to parents they are entirely responsible... More

I'm sure the phrase 'balm for the soul' has been used frequently about the superb Sculpture by the Lakes. This was our second visit and it is even more beautiful now, with new sculptures (the figure made out of bronze leaves is stunning), and more mature gardens. We were lucky to have a warm sunny day and so we could... More

Beautiful sculptures in a watery semi-natural setting, it was even better than I had anticipated. If you appreciate art and nature then this is an absolute must see. I enjoy photography and the carefully positioned sculptures are great subjects too. Visitor numbers are limited which made the whole experience infinitely more pleasurable and there are plenty of places to sit... More

My son who did an art course really enjoyed the experience as we did. Wonderful spot, sculptures around each corner, not visible until you come upon one. The galleries of work for sale were fascinating so much so that we were tempted to buy one and spent some time thinking about it and how to pay for it. Finishing off... More

This place is amazing. We came on a lovely sunny day but I think it would still be great to come here at any time. It is a very special place - peaceful but dynamic. The sculptures are beautiful and the landscaping is such a compliment to the art work. I would recommend this place to anyone - there's nowhere... More

Whilst I had been told about this place I had little idea what to expect. It was beyond all expectations in terms of beauty, tranquillity, exquisite sculptures and wildlife watching. The concept of viewing such sculptures in that setting is brilliant. The ability to observe absorb and appreciate was much enhanced particularly, dare I say, without hordes of chattering people... I live fairly locally but had never heard of this place and am so glad I was told about it. We spent a leisurely afternoon enjoying the sculptures and it certainly works having them set in these grounds rather than in a gallery. Very varied and interesting and well worth a visit. We are planning a return visit to show... More

We live in the Midlands and read about Sculpture by the Lakes in the Telegraph Gardening section, so we decided to arrange a September holiday in Dorset so we could visit it. We were not disappointed! It's a calm and peaceful place with inviting, varied types of seating (some with lots of cushions!) where you can just relax and enjoy... More

We had a lovely day.Seeing such beautiful sculptures in such a tranquil setting with nothing to disturb the ambiance of the place. It was nice to sit and eat our picnic surrounded by the lakes and gardens, and no commercialism or noise to be seen or heard. We also enjoyed the galleries with the smaller sculptures, all beautifully crafted.Next time we... More

Great place for a day out. Wonderful sculptures in a great setting. It was very peaceful and tranquil. The only thing missing was a picnic, next time we're taking one and seating longer.
