Entry to the Galleries is free. Due to deep water no children under 14 years of age. No dogs. Described as one of the most beautiful and unique sculpture parks in the United Kingdom, Sculpture by the Lakes marries the soft beauty of nature's wild river landscape with the more formal presentation of monumental outdoor sculpture. It is that combination of art and landscape that inspires Sculpture by the Lakes. Whether it is work on a monumental scale that relates to its environment, or smaller works, the sculptures of Simon Gudgeon are perfectly placed in the delicately nurtured natural landscape to visually enhance their surroundings. The effect is a balance, a harmony of form and context where the experience is central. Without walls, without interpretation, each person can engage with the art and the ever-changing environment. « less

We visited on a slightly overcast day, just after the lakes had been shown on BBC's Countryfile. Consequently it was rather busier than would be usual for this time of year, and I am glad that I had pre-booked or else I fear we may have been turned away. The whole experience was brilliant, our welcome was very helpful; I... More

We visited for my birthday, taking a picnic and spending a full five hours walking round the lakes, admiring the beautiful sculptures, finding cosy and secluded spots for coffee and picnicking. The restricted number of visitors at any one time really makes for peace and quiet, and the staff were very helpful, recommending spots for lunch and for coffee. It... More

We visited in early October - a day of showers and intermittent sun. The setting is beautiful, the sculptures inspirational. It felt like a privilege just to amble at leisure around the site. There are thoughtfully provided seating options throughout - and we enjoyed our picnic while sheltering from the rain overlooking the lake. Our first ever sighting of a... More

We were in a hurry and this lovely place forced us to slow down. Peaceful, beautiful, unhurried, no crowds, lovely small art gallery, beautiful garden planting, little interesting views of the river, biggers views of the lakes and the beautifully and interestingly placed sculptures.

We went here during Dorset Arts Weeks. What a fantastic, amazing place! It was wonderful to wander around, admiring the most incredible sculptures. There were plenty of benches to just sit and soak up the beautiful scenery and the calming effect of the lake. It's the sort of place you could easily spend the whole day, take a picnic and... More

Beautiful park laid out well inviting you to stroll around at your leisure. The signs to find the gerdens and the entrance stating you'd arrived could be much improved - there are no signs directing from the road and only a small tasteful, sign on the entrance itself. However this is the only criticism. The sculptures are lovely and varied... More

I was told that this was a magical place to visit and we were not disappointed. We look forward to a return visit in the spring. It is a perfect setting for such sculptures and limiting numbers makes it even more appealing. We look forward to seeing different sculptures and pictures in the gallery.
