Described as one of the most beautiful and unique sculpture parks in the United Kingdom, Sculpture by the Lakes marries the soft beauty of nature's wild river landscape with the more formal presentation of monumental outdoor sculpture. It is that combination of art and landscape that inspires Sculpture by the Lakes. Whether it is work on a monumental scale that relates to its environment, or smaller works, the sculptures of Simon Gudgeon are perfectly placed in the delicately nurtured natural landscape to visually enhance their surroundings. The effect is a balance, a harmony of form and context where the experience is central. Without walls, without interpretation, each person can engage with the art and the ever-changing environment. « less

We had long wanted to visit and our expectations were exceeded. A warm welcome on arrival was followed by several hours of peaceful yet stimulating wandering, staring, sitting and contemplation. We much enjoyed being encouraged to take a picnic and to sitting overlooking one of the lakes. The sculptures themselves are stunning both in their design and execution but also... More

Very good visit. Very peaceful place to visit and the sculptures are thoughtfully placed. Liked the fact that it wasn't crowded with no big visitor centre or shops. But would be good to be able to get a cup of coffee or tea - just something simple no need for a cafe. Would visit again.

My second visit was every bit as exciting as my first. The peaceful atmosphere seems to affect the few other visitors you meet - everyone wreathed in smiles. For me the sculptures reach a place deep inside - they work on so many levels and every muscle Take a picnic and comfortable shoes and let the experience swallow you up.... More

A perfect meld of landscape and art; large-scale sculptures by a range of artists are positioned around the site, with planting and vistas to set them off to their best advantage. The works themselves are a mix of the naturalistic (birds, fish, otters, deer, rabbits, and oddly, fruit), human, and geometric/celestial. While a couple of pieces edged towards the twee,... More

A fantastic walk around the lakes. Amazing views of the water, the trees and obviously the sculptures placed perfectly in various locations. Great place to eat lunch and to spend the day relaxing if you want.

Although living reasonably locally to this attraction we only heard of it through a third party who had visited recently. This is really a hidden gem if you appreciate both sculptures and wild life in a beautiful river and lakeland setting. We were certainly lucky with the weather when we visited this attraction, but even so locating such magnificent sculptures... More

Beautiful sculpture in such a peaceful & tranquil setting. What an idyllic spot for a day out! Unbelievable that all this landscaping has been created in just a few years. It looks as if it has been there for ever. Staff were very friendly & helpful. If it isn't warm enough for a picnic, try the Tea Rooms at Moreton... More

Excellent place to visit for some quiet contemplation and a gentle amble amongst some stunning sculptural exhibits. Beautiful Lakeland site with wonderful sculptures, which have a natural theme and look entirely at home in their surroundings. A very clever way to display art. A little tricky to find but actually quite close to Thomas Hardy's homes and Stinsford so well worth... More
